i am reading 'a briefer history of time' at the moment and it's fantastic but overwhelming at the same time. just started reading about wormholes and time travel. they are talking about curved space and how a wormhole would be taking the direct route not following the curvature of space/time. does this mean that any straight line we think we are taking through space is in fact curved.
and is it the same for vision through space ie: hubble.
we know that light bends through space but is it curved aswell? what causes the curvature?

A friend and I were talking the other and she said she'd heard that a comet (I didn't bother to correct her about that bit) was on a collison course with earth for the year 2036. Can someone please give a convincing (and true) answer that this is not the case?

I'm confusing myself. Do space or time exist outside of the universe? Is it possible? IS there an outside?

I know that Space (that big empty SPACE) is a vacuum. But, is it made of matter? I know that there are things made of matter in space (planets, gasses, stars...etc), but is the space that has nothing in it made out of matter?
