my friend sais that time is just an illusion invented by humans to make life more organized so they can just say come at 9:00 instead of saying come when the moon apears to be three inches in the air but then we advansed it to be like no time no life is that true.

Stars, Planets, Black Holes or what?

I personally like the theories that goes with it because they can be very out there and makes me think very deep.

What do you like the most about astronomy?

If you could add some answers to these other questions before I put them to vote, thanks.

Why stars like the sun can burn for billions of years, generating so much energy to illuminate everything in its system and more, without burning out?

Hypothetically speaking, what kind of disastrous impact would it have on Earth, if our moon was to fall out of Earth's gravitational pull? Either slowly or all at once.

I heard a story recently that on the day the Challenger sopace shuttle exploded after launch on 1-28-86, that the Russians had a day earlier launched a Soyuz capsule containing three pre-teen cosmonauts(10, 12 and 14 years old, two males and a female) as part of a top-secret project to determine if youngsters could survive a space trip of a week or more...the results were classified to this day, and the Russian space agency also denies this event even took place at all!!!...

However, I know that this happened, and that the world media were forbidden to report on it...

My question: DID this event(the Russian kids in space) really happen?

If there is no friction to slow an object, why not put huge rockets on it with a huge radio transmitter, shoot it off somewhere in space and see what happens? Or what if we merged the moon with the earth? like a planet with a huge tumor? would it ruin earth or would it become part of it?

When a space shuttle leaves earth, and thinking of the solar system as a flat plane, if they were heading toward the moon, why not go straight down? They always go out to search for stuff, who says theirs nothing of interest below us.

"NASA's plans for returning people to the moon -- an objective called for by President Bush in 2004 -- includes establishing a permanent outpost that would be used to prepare for a manned trip to Mars" - CNN
The coming asteroid is going to pass through Earth's gravitational key-hole in 2029, and impact the Earth seven years later. Is it possible that world's scientist's have determined that stopping the asteroid is wishful thinking, and maybe after doing a risk asessment have determined that building a moon colony to shelter key individuals is more plausable. Maybe they are related, maybe not - but it does seem suspicious. Considering how hard and difficult it is to do these calculations, if they had determined it was dangerous, would they tell us?
