I read Stephen Hawking a few years ago and a couple of others. I am looking to refresh my knowledge of the Universe and it's theories. I keep seeing a book called "The Elegant Universe" in the store. I can't handle anything too thick and stressful, light on the science jargon. I wanted a new book- something released within the past 3 years. I read today that scientists were able to teleport matter and am very fascinated.

OK, I asked this a lil while back and was told to post a more detailed question so here goes. I am in North Louisiana and the time is about 3:30 AM. I am facing East. Assuming that directly above me is 0 degrees at about 5 degrees in front of me is the Little Dipper. Just about directly above me. Going down in a straight line from the Little Dipper, still facing East, at about 45 degrees I get to the Big Dipper. Continuing down in a straight line from the Big Dipper I get to a very bright star right above the treetops at about 70 degrees. The Little Dipper, Big Dipper, and this star are all lined up with the Little Dipper being about half again as far from the Big Dipper as this star is. Also going down this imaginary line this bright star is the first bright star below the Big Dipper. Can someone tell me the name of this star (or possibly planet)?

Hello... CMBR was produced from the big bang 13.7 billion years ago, and are still detected today all around the univerise. They all posses the same exact temperature.

For me, it makes sense that they have the same exact temperature, since they were all emitted 13.7 billions years ago, thereofre, cooling at the same rate.

However, for scientists, its a "problem" that all these radio waves have the same exact temperature. They call this problem the "Horizon Problem"....

Why is it a problem that they posses the same exact temperatures?

On the date mentioned above, an Asteroid named Apophis (Pronounced Apothis) will be paying us a visit. It will come VERY close to Earth (so close that it will dip BELOW our communication satelites) but, according to scientists' calculations, will miss us...barely. But here's the catch, it'll be back 7 years later, Sunday, April 13th 2036, and depending on how Earth's gravity affects it on it's first visit, it could hit us. What do you think of this horrifying event? I would like to discuss it over e-mail with anyone would care to do so.
