Actually Newton was building on the work of Galelleo, who dropped balls from the tower in Pizza and wrote two laws of motion.

Newton defined gravity mathamatically and set forth other laws of motion.

These became the basis for physics and prevailed until Einstein's relativist look at gravity changed the whole ball game on a grand scale, but not the small scale which Newton described.

Newton's laws of gravity further defined the solar system and made it possible for astronomers to predict the location of Pluto due to orbital flaws and other factors

Newton never envisioned the warp of space due to gravity nor the fact that such a warp causes light to bend or refract due to the gravity well within the event horizon.

Newton's laws, however, make it possible for ships to go to the moon and come back. Appollo 13's safe return was made possible by practicl usage of the math laws on gravity, momentum, bodies in motion as defined by Newton.

What was everyone else here working on when they were 23?
