If you are serious, and really want to know, consider a naval battle in the war. How would one battleship know where the other is so it could fire on it and be sure of hitting it?. It doesn't have to go over to it, does it? It can measure the distance with instruments.

Same principle to the sun, though you need much more accurate instruments because it is so much further away.

Because we can see it every day. But perhaps you are wondering how we know how far away the Sun is. The distance from the Earth to the Sun is called an astronomical unit and the efforts to determine that distance are fascinating.
