How is it possible that from one edge of the visible universe to the other the two edges are nearly 28 billion light years apart and our universe is only 14 billion years old?

It had to do with the waning and waxing of the moon and how you could tell if it was waning or waxing depending on which side was dark.
something like "right waning left waxing" but that's not it, because it sort of rhymed or had alliteration.. hmm.. thanks
