Any takers? The price is 77% off. Normally I charge $100B per skyscraper. But you look like a nice person. What the heck, I'll throw in a free antenna tower. And don't forget the $10M payroll advance for my Saturnian workers. I don't just pay them with my good looks, you know.... =)

In the West (especially the Greeks and initially the Romans followed), the New year was celebrated in a combination of the phase of the Moon, with some standard Solar day. For example, the New Year in Athens was starting at the New Moon after the Summer Solstice.
When and how have we reached at the January 1st as the beggining of the year?

An asteroid that could cause much destruction on earth will come close to earth on July 3rd, 2006.

July 3, 2006. Asteroid 2004 XP14 passes near earth, very close, only 1.1 lunar distances (so about the distance of the moon). With a 400-900 meter estimated diameter, it would be very bad news if it hit earth (giant tidal waves, huge explosion).

The Northern hemisphere is way below the average elevation for the planet. Also, it seems a lot smoother than that pockmarked southern hemisphere. The North pole of Mars also sits on top of a dome that's almost 3 kilometers above the surrounding area.

When I look at that picture I imagine the tremendous currents blasting away and smoothing the northern hemisphere, while raising this mound and twisting it like dough.

Glass dunes: http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e397/Bigpappadiaz/slide25.jpg

These are where the huge currents traveled the surface, finding the shortest distance possible to wherever they went. They effectively turned the dirt and sand to glass.
