What is the difference between the Earth's atmosphere and that of other planets (Mercury, Pluto, Mars, Venus) that humans don't make "blopp".
Seriously. I mean, on what gases is a human dependant to survive for at least .. say ...0.001 second? On whitch of those planets you can say that there is no vacuum? And what role plays density for that matter?

I find this a rather startling fact, but apparently if you accelerate at 1g for half the distance and decelerate at 1g for the other half then you can get to Mars in 1 day. Is this right? How much reaction mass would you need, assuming you could chuck it out the back at a significant proportion of C? How much would you need to go the 4 light years to the nearest star? Is it conceivable that a spacecraft could generate enough power to maintain this kind of acceleration over a long period of time?

Astronomers tell us that Star X or Galaxy Y is 10 billion light years away. How do they know? They have never been there. They don't have a ruler telling them that the star is that far away. What are they using to help them to tell us about these vast distances?
And how can they measure the Milky Way Galaxy? They tell us it is 100 million light years across. What is the standard they are measuring it with?
Sorry, I never took physics or astronomy, so put it in layman's terms if possible.

Given what we do know about stellar dynamics and the expansion of the universe, does it not follow that we can extrpolate where it all started? Or have our math models, or info to calculate, not advanced to that state yet.

Or do they close it off for security concerns? We went there on Saturday and you could see the launch pad with 5 miles. The external fuel tank was on the pad. It was so visable and clear. So we want to go back there again on July 1 for the shuttle launch. Is the Merrit Island Wild Life reserve open that day?

I do not intend to suggest filling the entire vacuum of outer space. I am just asking if I was somehow able to “colonize” a tiny portion of outer space with oxygen, would the “sky” still be black or would it be blue like it is here on Earth?
