Obviously, they (the pilots) WANT to be noticed. As to why that is... still a mystery.

Well even though they are "clandestine",they still need to have running lights so that when they land on their own mother-ship,they are seen better.Also they are not all clandestine,like you think.If they were we would never see them.There is always an answer to a question.Some of them use the lights to take readings of the earths atmosphere and temperature,and pictures of our population.So many reasons why they have them,all one has to do is ask ones self.Hope i was helpfull.

We would never see and report them if they didn't use their lights. Radar contact reports are (mostly) not reliable
Hundreds (thousands ?) have not been reported because they didn't have their lights on.
We will find out "why" when they choose to tell us.
