By using transposition, make V the subject of this formula:

X = R ( E-V ) / V

The whole formula on the right hand side R(E-V) is over the V, thankyou.

Just a question that popped in my exam... Happened to be only I missed:

The sum of the potential and kinetic energies of a system is said to be conserved when

A) Only when the resultant force acting on the system is zero
B) Only when it moves in a closed cycle
C) Only when the work done by the resultant external force is zero
D) Always
E) None of the above

(or something like that)

I can't understand why A and C are wrong anyways.

I am wanting to get my mother a telescope but I don't have that much money. So, I am having to get her one that is $100 or less. So, which one do you think is better?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LJMOX6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=sz-ce-20&linkCode=asn

http://shopping.discovery.com/product-65618.html?tcp=Telescopes-featured-MeadeRB70R

Also, I thought if I didn't get it for her for Christmas then I could get her the one that is about $300. So, what do you think of this one?

http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=starseeker_freeship/~pcategory=starseeker_freeship/~product_id=09741

If you know of one that is better than any of these three that are $100 or less then let me know. Or, I guess if you can find one that is a really nice one that works really great then it can be $300 or less.

Well, thank you. I really appreciate it. Again, thanks.

Consider the following balanced equation in which gas X forms gas X2.

2X(g) --> X2 (g)

Equal moles of X are placed in two seperate containers. One container is rigid so the colume cannot change; the other container is flexible so the volume changes to keep the internal pressure equal to the external pressure. The above reaction is run each container. What happens to the pressure and density of the gas inside each container as reactants are converted to products?

Tom Hanks, the navigator of a ship at sea, spots two lighthouses that he knows to be 2 miles apart along a straight shoreline. He determines that the angles formed between two line-of-sight observations of the lighthouse and the line from the ship directly to shore are 12º and 30º.
(a) How far is the ship from lighthouse A?
(b) How far is the ship from lighthouse B?
(c) How far is the ship from shore?

I'll try to draw a little illustration... \ is 12º, | is ship from shore straight away, and / is 30º
A -------2miles--------B
\| /
\| /
\| /
\| /
\ | /
\ | /
\12º | 30º/
\ BOAT /

This answer was correct, but it doesn't logically make sense to me.
sin 42º = sin 60º
2 miles x
x = 2.588 miles (a)

then I found b = 2.923 miles
and c = 2.534 miles
The #'s that I'm using don't logically match up with the picture though...

Tanya carried out an experiment in which she placed some iron wool into some blue copper sulphate solution.
In her book she wrote:
"I predict that the iron will react with the copper sulphate because iron is higher than copper in the reactivity series. I think that i will see some colour changes"

1) Describe the two colour changes Tanya would see that would show her prediction is correct.

2) Complete this word equation for the reaction:
iron + copper sulphate =

3) Tanya then repeated the experiment with zinc in place of iron. Compare the result you would expect to the result for iron.

All answers and explanations are much appreciated. Thanks
