Has there been any confirmed or disproved findings concerning any possible ill effects on developing fetuses associated with pregnant mothers consuming any artificial sweeteners? Has there been a study conducted to evaluate whether a link between autism and artificial sweeteners exists? Or are there statistical graphs that chart any potential correlation with the increased overall consumption of artificial sweeteners with the increase of birth defects or abnormalities?

I sincerely doubt that riding in automobiles has anything to do with autism; however, chemical substances that are not naturally ocurring might or might not have an impact on the development of a fetus. It is a legitimate question.

I don't know where exactly you'd find that information (in a secret vault no doubt) but I think it's pretty well know just how bad these things are for you and I totally agree that it could affect an unborn baby, just like any drug could. I honestly don't know why aspartame is still around....then again, i wonder about a lot of things (???)

I doubt there is a link. Autism is a genetic condition. I did not use any artificial sweeteners, and I still had a child with autism.

There is no significant functional difference between these "artificial" sweeteners and "natural" sweeteners like sucrose, fructose, lactose, etc., any more than there is a difference between distilled spring water and distilled horse sweat!

The safety of a foetus can be improved by a far higher order of magnitude by preventing a pregnant woman from driving or riding in a car than by restricting her use of artificial sweeteners!

There's a good reason it isn't even on the market in Europe.
Google "aspartame" and read the horror associated with it. It breaks down into highly toxic substances when ingested.
Once I read about it, I asked my internist about it, and he said "NEVER ingest that poison!". 'Nuf said?
Come to think of it, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprized if it's proven to cause autism.
