The problem says "You like to drive to a special store to buy your favorite gourmet jelly beans for a low price of $1.30 a pound. However, your best friend points out that you are spending about $3 on gas every time you drive to that store and that you might as well buy your jelly beans at your local supermarket for $2.10 a pound. You decided to show him that you are getting enough jelly beans to make it worth the trip.

The first question (part A) asks me to let X represent the number of pounds of jelly beans and to write an equation to determine the total cost, C, if I buy them at the special store. I wrote:

C=1.30X+3

Then (part B) it asks me to write an equation to determine the total cost, C, if I buy the jelly beans at the local supermarket. I wrote:

C=2.10X

Those are both right

But this is where I get stuck….

It says “The two equations in part A and part B form a system of two linear equations. Solve this system using an algebraic approach.”

I don’t know how to do this!!

I have a chemistry project for school and it is designing a half dollar coin out of any materials we like. We have copper pennies, so i was thinking about a copper half dollar. Is copper a good metal to use for it? Are there any special properties of copper that make it a good metal? Are there any special properties that make it a bad metal? Thanks in advance.

Don't calculate it here, merely explain what you need to do in order to calculate it. Give the strategy, not the result.

The question goes as follows:
Standard cell potentials are determined with 1.0 M solutions of ions. In this experiment, we will use 0.10 M solutions of Zn2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, and Ag1+ to minimize the amount of hazardous waste generated. In this series of questions, you will figure out what effect this will have on the voltages you observe.

Consider a cell consisting of a Cu2+/Cu couple, and a Ni2+/Ni couple.

a. Starting with 1.0 M solutions of ions (standard conditions), evaluate Q in the Nerst Equation.

OK, so, Q=[products]^coeff/[reactancts]^coeff. I'm figured out th equation to be 2Cu^2+ + Ni<---> Ni^2+ + 2Cu^1+. The Q equation would be= [Ni]/[Cu^2+]^2, right? but I have no idea how to get the Molarities!! Is Cu^2+ 0.1M??? What's Ni?? PLease help!

Hi,

A line in the infrared region of hydrogen spectrum has wavelength of 1.093 micrometers. What is the transition responsible for this wavelength?

I tried using (9.112E-8 m) / (wavelength) = (1/nf^2 - 1/ni^2). But how do I solve for two unknowns? Do I assume nf = 1?

Thanks!

Sometimes when I walk though automatic doors like at a supermarket they jam up. Fot a while it happened every time, its very annoying cuz you think its going to close on you or something.
They usually jam open and the motors are still running and buzzing. Alot of the time the sensors dont pick me up when I'm going to them either... I am short but kids go through these doors everyday with no trouble. so why dont they like me lol

In high school, a buddy of mine built a rail gun, or EMP cannon. He was able to project anything he could fit inside at super high velocities using the magnetic fields it created. Apparently the "projectile" had a magnetic field that was only disrupted by contact with a solid. With that in mind, couldnt we build a big one, stick a ship inside, and launch it into space? All it would need besides what a shuttle has is a secondary electromagnetic pulse to cancel out the magnetic field, and allow the ship to move freely. This could even be done deep into the solar system to save the fuel on the initial trip. People already know how to do this.

Does anyone know the proof of this theorem:
If line l is parallel to line m, and m is parallel to line n, then l is parallel to n or l is equal to n.

I would LOVE a paragraph proof, but a column proof would also help. Thanks!
