A monk climbs a mountain at 7AM and reaches the summit at noon. Come morning he leaves the summit again at 7AM and descends to the bottom by the exact same route. PROVE that there is a time between 7AM and noon when the monk is in the exact same location as the day before. (Notice I did not mention anything about his velocity, which neither has to be constant nor positive).

I am a tutor and I want to know:

Does anyone have some study habits tricks? Like for studying for tests, and/or memorizing things?

Like how do you memorize things if you have a bunch of formulas to memorize!?

One trick I know is to write a few formulas on a note and stick it on the wall in the shower, then memorize it each morning.

h = vt - 16t^2

where v is the initial upwards velocity in feet per second. If v = 19 feet per second, find all values of t for which h = 5 feet. Do not round any intermediate steps. Round your answer to two decimal places.

Does anyone know any shortcuts for multiplication? I'm also looking for ones that involve the ones we all memorize 8x7, etc. because I am a tutor and this would help my students. So any tricks for memorizing the basic multiplication tables are good too.

Here are the ones I know already.

I'm writing like this: AB x 11 means (10a + b) x 11

AB x 11 = 100a + 10(a + b) + b
Ex. 24 x 11 = 264

I know the algorithm for multiplying single digit numbers times 9. If you don't know it, its a x 9... first digit is (a-1). Then digits need to add up to 9. So 7 x 9, 7-1 = 6. Then second digit must be 3.

I don't need to go over the obvious trick when multiplying single digits times 5.

Then we have the (a-k)(a+k) = a^2 - k^2 trick.
Ex. 23 x 27 = 25^2 - 2^2 = 625 - 4 = 621.....(assuming of course that you know 25^2 = 625)
This is useful for lots of things 27 x 33, 35 x 45, etc.

Also if the numbers are low, ab x cd = 100(ac)+10(ad+bc)+bd is useful.

As a college student in physics class in the 80's at a Big Ten midwestern university, I actually asked this question, out loud. Asking this in a physics class is like asking "What is the meaning of life?" in a humanities class (which I also did). Okay, so maybe I'm "weird." But, I'll bet, if you ponder over the question, you'll not come up with a satifactory answer. Creativeness in your answer will get you points, though.

In his Mustang, Juan rounds a curve onto a straight section of country road while traveling at a speed of 17.0 m/s , only to find a fully loaded manure spreader completely blocking the road a distance 38.0 m ahead of him. Startled, he travels at a constant velocity for a period of reaction time of 0.850 s , then hits the brakes and slows at constant acceleration so that he manages to stop just short of the spreader.

With the same reaction time and acceleration, if he had roared around the corner at a speed of 28.0 m/s instead of 17.0 m/s, how fast would he have been going when he hit the spreader?

How much time would he have had for his life to flash before his eyes from the time he first sees the spreader until he hits it?

I had to do an experiment, but since my flashlight broke I can;t. :(

Anyway, which 'star' would be brighter- the larger one (the full flashlight beam) or the smaller star (the flashlight beam through a hole in the aluminum foil)?

In the experiment, we were to find the boiling point using an one open ended microbell capillary tube attached to a thermometer which was put open end down in a melting point capillary tube. A liquid was placed in the melting point capillary tube. The melting point apparatus was heated, and the melting point was when the stream of bubbles ceased and when the liquid begins to rise in the bell.

Q1: When the stream of bubbles in the capillary tube stops, we define this as the boiling point. Explain why this is and what is happening on the molecular level.

Q2: Why does the alcohol rise into the capillary tube? Explain what is happening on the molecular level?

I'm looking to find and then prove by induction a formula for F1 + F3 + F5 +F7 + .... I recognize that the series 1, 2, 5, 13, 34, 85, 233 follows the formula: F(n) = F(n-2) + (F1 + F3 + F5 + ... + F(n-2)). I'm not sure if this is the formula I'm looking for and I'm not sure how to set up such a formula for proof by induction. Can anyone help at all? Thanks.

The house fly freely moves around the mangoes. The question is....
We are in contact with the bus. so we too will move with a velocity of the bus. no issues in that. But the fly which is not in contact with the bus at times flies freely in air. How is it possible. will the fly have velocity more than the bus. If it doesnt have greater velocity it will obviously hit the back glass of the bus. how the fly can move freely in a bus speeding with such a great velocity. hope you understand my question.

Has a rabbit ever been handled by an ape, in a zoo or anything like that? Would the ape kill the rabbit and eat it, or would it pet it and cuddle it? I don't know why I need to know this, but I can't get the question out of my mind.
