As a college student in physics class in the 80's at a Big Ten midwestern university, I actually asked this question, out loud. Asking this in a physics class is like asking "What is the meaning of life?" in a humanities class (which I also did). Okay, so maybe I'm "weird." But, I'll bet, if you ponder over the question, you'll not come up with a satifactory answer. Creativeness in your answer will get you points, though.

It is a fast moving group of particles. And wind is created by the difference in pressure in the different parts of the planet. When I was young I thought that wind was a living creature and that it was created by God`s hand when He got angry!

Lol those must have been fun times :-P

Well i would have to say the same as everyone else, in that wind is just movement of particles. However, another theory that i believe is that wind movement may also be caused by solar winds. Where by the force of the winds has some effect on this Earth.

And for your other question on the meaning of life... it can be interrupted in that life is the way you make it. How ever way you live your life, that is life.

Wind is actually air in motion

When the Earths surface gets heated air expands so we have a low air pressure fomation in certain areas that is the density of air in the area decreases
And we also have a high air pressure in another area that is the density of air in that area increases....

So the air from the high density[high pressure] region starts flowing towards the low density[low pressure] region so that the density of air remains the same throughout the world

This Movement of air is what we call wind
It is not caused by movement of trees as someone above me has said !

Hermes is the god of messages. As he is delivering his messages, he speeds from one place to another. This causes the air to move as he speeds by.

Duh! Everyone knows this.
