A skier starts from rest at the top of a 45 m high hill, skis down a 30 degree incline to valley and continues up a 40 m hill. The heights of both hill are measured from the valley floor. Assume you can neglect friction and the effect of ski poles. How fast is the skier moving at the bottom of the valley? What is the skiers speed at the top of the next hill? Would the angles of the hills affect your answers?

To attain the maximum range, a projectile has to be launched at 45 degrees if the landing spot and the launch spot are at the same height (neglecting air-resistance effects). Explain how the relation between the vertical and the horizontal components of the initial velocity affects the projectile range.

ok i was doing a heat release question where i am given two molecules and the bond energies of each of their pieces and a reaction
i was asked to calculate the change in heat for the reaction
i found that the reactants side was 345 less than the products side
i know the formula says that i am to take the products side and subtract from the reactants side but explain to me how that makes logical sense
that would mean you get an answer reactants-products=-345
i knew this but i thought about it and i wrote +345 (i got it wrong) because if it were the other way that would mean that the reactants give up an amount of energy less than that which the products need to form and the reaction gives off energy this is impossible
(no free lunch rule)

how can u need more energy than u have and still give off energy
(energy is measured from the point of view of the system remember)

Solve the system by addition:
3x + 7y = 1
x + 2y = 1

Solve the system by substitution:
3x + 5y = 2
y = -x + 2

I completely do not remember how to do this math. It's been a year or so since I've done this sort of math, so I'm still a bit rusty at it. Any help is much appreciated! If you can explain the steps you took to get the answers that would be awesome :) Thanks in advance.

When I was a student in grade school, I was taught that a theory was a plausible explanation for phenomena which we could not be absolutely certain about. Many years later, I was in a college science course when my prof announced that just because a theory has not been proven that that does not mean the theory is not a solid fact. So which way is it?

If so...why not makes buildings that way in the first place? Seems like if you are going to live in an tornadoe infested area it would make sense to build the buildings right the first time. Probaly save money in the long run.
