1.Calculate the standard molar enthalpy of formation for sulfur dioxide.

S(s) + O2 (g)---> SO2 (g)
Given the thermochemical equations below.

2S (s) + 3 O2 (g)-------> 2 SO3 (g)
enthalpy change= -791.5 kJ

2SO2 (g) + O2 (g) ---> 2SO3 (g)
enthalpy change= -197.9 kJ

2. The specific heat capacity of aluminum is 0.897 J/g.K. What quantity of heat (in joules) is required to heat 15.0 g of Al from 22.0 degrees celsius to 75.0 degrees celsius?

3. Determine the heat of vaporization of Titanium(IV) chloride given the enthalpiesof reaction below.

Ti(s) + 2 Cl2 (s)---> TiCl4 (l) enthalpy change= -804.2 kJ

Ti(s) + 2 Cl2 (s)---> TiCl4 (g) enthalpy change= -763.2 kJ

(Assume acceleration due to gravity = 10m/s/s)
This question is possible to answer!!!
Please show how you got the question..this would be a great help to me!!

You operate a tour service that offers the following rates:

$200 per person if 50 people (the min number to book the tour) go on the tour

For each additional person, up to a maximum of 80 people total, the rate per person is reduced by $2.

It costs $6000 (a fixed cost) plus $32 per person to conduct the tour. How many people does it take to maximize your profit?

Anti-Gravity....Can anyone help me out here?

I'm a senior biochem major so I'm not exactly illiterate when it comes to this type of science but my older brother who is quite the theororiest was trying to explain to me how he read somewhere that someone had taken a sub atomic particle (I assume an electron) and used a superconductor and somehow created a gravitational field with it. He also mentioned how it broke one of the laws of thermodynamics but he can't account for which one exactly. There seemed to be a lot of holes in his explanation but it seemed to him to be some very promising findings in terms of future technology.

Does this sound vaguely familiar to anyone and could you elaborate on this? 10 points goes to the best and most helpful elaboration.

Hi. I'm getting ready for a discrete math final on Wednesday, and of all the topics I don't really "grok", chief among them is the principle of inclusion-exclusion and specifically the derivation of the formula for derangements.

I get it at a high level, but I was hoping maybe someone out there with a gift for explaining mathematical concepts well might have a go at trying to simplify the explanation for my benefit.

I'm aware of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derangement, but it's a little too formal for my taste. A link to a friendlier discussion would be great, however.

I would really appreciate it if people would avoid posting flippant answers like "I don't know, look it up" or "you must be deranged to ask such a question". There are lots of other questions out there you can use to get your 2 points.

Thanks in advance!

My laptop doesn't recognize when something is plugged into it. Like the power cord. Its from 2002 (I know its old) and the battery doesn't hold a charge anymore.

Someone told me it could be not recognizing anything because the battery is completely dead. Should i just buy a new battery and see if it works or will that not fix it?
Thanks

Why aren't they orbiting in random planes (but obviously at discrete distances from the sun, otherwise they would collide)? I would have expected the solar system to look like (how text books describe) electrons orbiting a nucleus. The same question applies to galaxies - why do they form spiral discs?
