It's getting frusterating to me to people are mentioning names such as "Olivia" or "Hailey" or "Brayden" or " Aidan" as different and unique...Have you seen the list of the most popular names of 2006?

And while I'm here, what's people's hang up about being teased...Kids are going to be teased about their names, personalities, looks no matter what...even if they have "common" names.

(latter comment excludes bizzare "made up" names)

As I child (back in 1978) we had a neighbor named Ian (he was 3) and a friend at school named Liam. No one was named that for many years, and now that I might have a child they are pretty popular, so I would not use.

Also, as a big Jane Austen reader in grade school (1970's) I liked the names Emma (from the Novel), and Elinor (from Sense and Sensibility) just because I loved the characters.

Now Emma and Ellie are so popular....... so again I would not use.

I was even telling my friends that Jane and Hazel were due for comeback (i'm always trying to find something not popular) and they laughed.

One of my friends promptly named her baby Jane (it was going to be Alessandra???) and within 6-months Julia Roberts named her baby Hazel!

If my next baby is a girl, I was thinking of naming her after my mom, sort of. My mom's name is Sally. I don't want a daughter named Sally, but if I move the first letter to the end, I get Allys, and would pronounce it "Alice".
Is this too weird of a spelling? Would people have a hard time with the pronunciation? Do you think my mom would feel bad because it says "your name is not good enough, I'm going to change it"?
I'm really not into weird names, or weird spellings of names, but I wanted to somehow honor my mom (she does not have a middle name, nor do I, nor will the future daughter).
Thanks!

What are some good first names as well as middle names for a baby boy? Nothing too common please. Actually, something rare with a nice meaning is what I prefer. Thank you!

I love the name Audrey Josphine, Josphine after my grandmother whom I never got to meet, it is also my sister's middle name so here are my questions...
My mom's middle name is Ann and I also love that and want to pay tribute to her...so I want to combine Audrey and Anne, I have heard of Adrianna but how would you spell Audreyanna? (see what I mean the y looks silly but I dont want ppl to confuse it with Adrianna. Also do you think I should ask permission to use Josphine from my sister, she is only 18 but should I as it is her middle name too?

I like the name Torin. I like it for one sex, but I'm not sure if it's more often used for the other sex. What sex do you think the name Torin goes better with? And do you know any Torins? Are they boys or girls? Thanks.

My brother n law named all his children. Well, when they got to the last one it was down between 2 names. They decided against the one I really liked. Well, I said I would just name my daughter that. This was well before my boyfriend and I were together. Now, I am pregnant I told him the name. He hates it!! He threatens to call her by her middle name. Well, I told him he will confuse our baby. Please HELP!!! I don't know what to do. Every name he selects is awful!!!!

My partner and I spent a lot of time thinking about what to name our daughter and talked to freinds and relatives about our possible choices to see what kind of reactions we got, but would not have dreamed of asking strangers (ie the Yahoo Answers 'community') for advice on such a personal question!!

My dad passed away in April of 05, about a week before he passed, I promised I would hyphen my last name when I got married...

My fiance and I have decided on names for our first child....the problem I face now, is that my name and his name will be too long!
Boy: Hunter Keith M****-L******
Girl: Karah-Ann Faith M****-L******
I guess on legal document I could do the hyphened name...but other then that they and I can just use the L. last name.

I dunno...what do you think?

I'm in no hurry to decide.....but it'd be nice to have an idea of what I'd like to do. :)

I'm working on having my 3rd child. We already have a Bradley and Tinsley. I'm looking for another name ending in "ley". Boy or girls names it doesn't matter. We want a girl but aren't going to find out the sex of the baby. So unisex names would be great. :)

My wife and I are expecting our 2nd child. We're trying to come up with some boys names and we're set on having Robert as the middle name, but trying to think of some strong first names to go with it. Some we've already thought of are Ethan, Aaron, Owen, Gavin and Dylan, but my wife isn't sold on any of them. Any other ideas?
