I need to do a newsletter for the Civil War pretending that we were journalist editors, and we need to put in a few ads. What would be some things I could advertise for that they would use in the 1800's, like around the time when the Civil War ended?

Thanks much, appreciate.(:

If you read the news, you would think that one out of two homes in America have a For Sale sign in the front yard and every other home is listed in the Foreclosure section of the newspaper. Personally, I'm not seeing it here in Atlanta, GA. Besides the idiot homebuying markets such as LA, DC, Las Vegas, and Manhattan, is anyone else seeing a bust or is the media trying to "create" the news?

I fully understand global warming theory. Monitor big ice throughout freeze-thaw cycles and notice the net result of thaw. Let's grant that humans are responsible for warming over this tiny swath of time, insignificant in geological terms. Still, with every extreme cold snap, the Sun-Earth system proves to us that natural forces are orders of magnitude more powerful than any human activity. At any time our concerns can be made trivial by forces beyond our conceit. Number of times scientists have been correct about long term predictions?: zero. Whose guesses can be better?: anyone's. Tell me what you think, and if you disagree, share a few long-term predictions from scientists that have come true.

In my english class, my teacher wants us to bring a recent editorial from a newspaper or magazine and analyze it, like why it was written, the methods it uses, is it successful, etc. I can't find a site for any good magazines that publish good essays weekly. This is not a one-time project thing. Our teacher wants us to bring a current event every week and analyze it. So does anyone read these sort of newspapers or magazines and can suggest one? Please?

I've found news relevant to "who" is suing, but I don't know if anyone is winning, or settlements are being offered. Please don't saturate this question with debating wether or not "Borat" should be sued, leave that for another question.

Can someone provide me with a link with a photo of Colleen Shipman? I thought that only Italian men went into jealous rages - are Italian women also prone to such outbursts? Does Colleen also work for NASA? Does anyone know anything about her, i.e., what she does for a living, etc.? Here's the link that states that Lisa Nowak (married name) is the first Italian-American woman in space. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/space/orl-bk-nasaastronaut0507feb05,0,6104316.story?coll=orl-home-headlines

Maybe this is the year for Italian women; after all, Nancy Pelosi became the first woman and the first Italian to be speaker of the US House of Representatives.
This story is so crazy that the media will feature it for a long, long time.

Do you think it was really attempted murder? And if she actually was to do it, how do you think she would have done it? A BB gun is dangeous, but is it deadly? I guess maybe she was planning on cutting her up into pieces with that 4-inch pocket knife and then sticking her body parts in those garbage bags she brought. What's your speculation?

Watched Fox News for a second to play a little game I invented......how long before they lie. Usually one minute. However, here's my question....There was a story yesterday about how service jobs are on the increase and in the background they were playing a film clip of a man working on an automobile assembly line.....which is a MANUFACTURING job. Are they deliberately lying to their viewers in a not so sublimal way. Service jobs are usually minimum wage and that's nothing to brag
about.

Maybe that explains Associated Press's problem with spinning the news. (A.P.'s real name should be "Activists' Propaganda")

27% of journalism students cheat, and they cheat more than business majors.

"business students didn't rank as the worst cheaters. That distinction belonged (ahem) to journalism majors, 27% of whom said they cribbed answers. The most honest group? Those in the sciences, where 19% reported cheating on tests. The results come from surveys conducted over the past three years by Donald McCabe, a management professor at Rutgers Business School and founder of CAI."
