Is the whole frenzied debate on supermarket packaging really the hottest topic we should be debating or is it the most absurd tokenism that typifies debate in the UK today ?

As I’m sure many have heard, there are hundreds of people around the country who have unfortunately lost all of their money, which they saved with a company called Farepak, which went bankrupt. Farepak was holding their money so that these people had money for Christmas presents.

The thing is, what exactly did Farepak do when it was still operating?? Did it invest peoples money? Did it offer interest?

Why didn’t the people using Farepak instead open a high interest savings account, which fully insures your money (pluis gives you interest)?

If this is the case (and if Farepak did not give interest) then are the people partly to blame for being idiots with their money, or have I missed the point?

Comments and suggestions??

Years ago I heard that Jack Palance died during the making of City Slickers 2. I also heard that they had to piece together his scenes with a mixture of CGI images and test shots and had the end of the film re-written to make up for the lack of footage. Does anybody know what's the real story?

My best friend was tonight told that her brother who she hasn't seen or heard from in quite sometime committed suicide last week. She wasn't even told in time to attend the funeral. I have searched every where I can possibly think of. The only thing I have found was an "In Loving Memory" dedicated to him on a gaming page, and have been unsuccessful contacting the owner of the site: www.geocities.com/evilman302 (Pic of him and a poem...) How do I find out who posted that? Could it have been him before he actually took his own life? How can I find out information on his death? His name was Jeff Macaloney and his apparent death was last week in Saskatchewan, Canada. How can this not even have made the local paper? :( He has a 2 yr old nephew that he never even got to meet.... HELP PLEASE!

The U.S. savings rate is in the negatives. Also, many other European countries are not faring so well. The only countries that has a high savings rate is Singapore, China, Japan, and South Korea. What is wrong with us? Dont we realize social security and medicare is going to be gone? Are we all ignoring this?

Halliburton/Kellog were awarded jobs in both iraq wars, bosnia (clinton) vietnam without bidding. I would not have worked on the projects along with the rest of the civilians if halliburton would not have been "GIVEN" them. REAL multi-phase projects require surface, route , feasibility, geological, envrionmental SURVEYS that take 2 to 5 years. After a war, the project starts NOW. The company handling the project receives data such as troop locations, equipment depots, mine field locations, locations for training, air strips, etc. You can NOT turn that data over to a company like Technip. Regarding profiteering ? probably. Same thing happend in Bosnia - Clinton era....and do not forget the 7 billion dollar deal Clinton made between the saudis and boeing but I never hear anything about that...then you have LBJ who owned 55 percent of colt fire arms...they built parts for small arms used in Vietnam...

i just saw this on cnn where students are able to use "text" to take their tests; aka what people type on their cell phones/blackberries! i think that's ridiculous because that doesn't teach you anything. and when you go into the real world, i highly doubt you will use that.
