Fact:
The opinion (confirmed by Timex) is that clock and watch hands in
advertisements are typically set at 10:10 so that the company's logo
will be well-displayed.

"In addition, this position of the hands
resembles a smile."

" Manufacturers want you to see their product
'smiling' at you!"

The clock hands are placed at ten-nine and thirty six seconds , exactly.
It's a creative industry standard.

Myth:
Several people beleive that clocks' hands in advertisements are set at 10:10 because this was
the time of day when Abraham Lincoln was shot, or the time when he died. This is a fascinating explanation, but there isn't a shred of evidence for it (and, in fact, Lincoln was shot at 10:15 PM, and died the next morning at 7:22)

In art school I learned that it is because it looks like open arms that want to give you a big hug. I have also heard that it is because most numerical systems (except for time and the Imperial system of weights and measures) is base ten. Thus, showing a clock/watch to be at 10:10 represents accuracy. For digital watches it shows that both of the hour digits work (ie. 9:10 would not you that the frist one worked) Not all watches in advertisements are at 10:10 though...often if there is more than one watch shown on a page they are different times.

Because it is a remembrance of the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln where both of these happened at 10:10.
Its a way of just showing our remembrance.
Thats all!!

All the adverts I've seen show the watch or clock at 1.50......to show off the face with a good balance....if you know what I mean.
