i just saw this on cnn where students are able to use "text" to take their tests; aka what people type on their cell phones/blackberries! i think that's ridiculous because that doesn't teach you anything. and when you go into the real world, i highly doubt you will use that.

That's just plain ridiculous. The English language is already hard to learn as it is. This will make them sound too ingnorant.

I haven't heard about that no. That is very stupid though. All mobiles etc should be banned during tests. I know I've never been allowed to sit a test with a mobile.

They wonder why the generations are getting dumber. There is no way the help of phoning a friend is going to get you anywhere in the real world. People don't learn and because someone is doing it for them they do not register the information.

I know of a few people who had their parents help them or have their parents do their assignments for them. They've walked out of school, gone to college away from their family, and their grades have dropped because they dont have that outside help.

OK, that's just ridiculous! Of course, after I heard they wanted to make ebonics an official English dialect (and include it in testing) in California, nothing should surprise me! What is happening to the English language these days???

It sounds like administrators or education ministry officials trying to be cool, and keep up with the times. Teachers will quash this movement; they won't want more txt speak in student's daily assignments.
