Why was that one episode singled out and not the other killings and brutality he was both famed and responsible for over a long timespan by commanding that they be done in the first place? Surely his armies had to be instructed by him rather than acting on their own, otherwise they wouldn't be his armies.

That said, hanging doesn't seem like a harsh enough punishment. Yes he should be executed, but he should also suffer like the countless people he killed had to.

For the civilian deaths that occurred during and after the Iraq war.

Don't get me wrong, I'm against the death penalty, but I'm curious to know what people think.

Now that the trial is finally over and he has been found guilty (right decision) do you think he should be hung?
My view is that he could then be made a martyr to the 'cause' and this in itself will cause more deaths in Iraq and all over the world. The fantatics will jump on this excuse to carry out their evil deeds. I think he should serve his sentence behind bars for the rest of his life. Sadam will love to be hanged, he will love the anger, hatred that his death will bring on the already smaller minority of shi-ites in Iraq. What do u all think?

That is of course if he finds some crafty way to apleal. Lets face he killed at least one person so string him up. Maybe we will see a video on the internet soon.

He is awaiting execution for all the war crimes he has commited and to me the sentence is fair but who is going to tell the american government that by putting him to death will also put many civillian lives at risk throughout the world and many soldiers lives at risk in iraq?

I say no.
What Saddam did was dreadful - unforgivable.
Murder and torture are heinous crimes.
Is it now OK for us to send out the message that it is OK for society to murder him?
I think not.
If it is wrong for Saddam to commit murder, then it is wrong for everyone.
No one has the right to take life.
Yes, give him hardship for the rest of his life.
Make sure he never commits such acts again.
But make sure too that the hyprocitical message is not sent out that murder is acceptable in any circumstances.
I would like to hear the views of other Yahoo Answers members, but I won't be changing my views.
Just for the record, I am Irish and a christian, and have no love of Saddam Hussien or his appalling crimes.

I fear that there will be some riots following the Saddam verdict which will result in some US casualities. Is anybody else concerned about this ?

How many times has he lied to his people. Saddam was sentenced for killing about 200. How many has Bush killed. Saddam tortured. Bush recently did the same with prisoners of war at a "secret location". Bush started an ILLEGAL war. He has indirectly killed thousands.

I honestly believe after a fake war, nonstop bs-ing, killing of thousands, torture. Don't you think this man needs to be put on a similar such trial and a similar such verdict needs to be read.
