I say no.
What Saddam did was dreadful - unforgivable.
Murder and torture are heinous crimes.
Is it now OK for us to send out the message that it is OK for society to murder him?
I think not.
If it is wrong for Saddam to commit murder, then it is wrong for everyone.
No one has the right to take life.
Yes, give him hardship for the rest of his life.
Make sure he never commits such acts again.
But make sure too that the hyprocitical message is not sent out that murder is acceptable in any circumstances.
I would like to hear the views of other Yahoo Answers members, but I won't be changing my views.
Just for the record, I am Irish and a christian, and have no love of Saddam Hussien or his appalling crimes.

well we did (on America's behalf and behest) invade their country, kill lots of their citizens, start a civil war and attempt to impose our sham called 'democracy' upon them.
suppose we may as well kill their former leader now just to cover all the bases.....

I don't know if i believe in anything really.. but all i can say is that does killing him bring back any of the poor people he tortured.. surely making him live his days out reminding him of what he is there for is more than adequate. But they have their own justices' in those countries. I have been to the far east a few times and people there know what will happen if the commit crimes. Not maybe our views but seems like what we call rough justice. I like your answer to it by the way.

Well, this is a moral question first of all. Many will want to kill him because of all the murders and suffering he has caused. As much as I would not like to see anyone harmed, he would be the poster child for capital punishment by the people who suffered under his rule. Nothing unusual about people responses. You mentioned your a christian, now based on bible standards(old testament) he would be killed the same as he has done to others. However, (the new testament)tell us to return eye for eye to no one. Must evil individual always pay the cost for they evil whether you choose to do it or not. Negative always draws negative. He will pay regardless of how we individually feel we will react, because there will always be someone who will make him pay for his deeds even if they were not directly affected by his actions. Outrage of onlookers is just as strong as the anger of those directly affected by him. As you can see.

I have been anti capital punishment all my life and however tempting it may sometimes be to make exceptions in cases like this and child murder etc it still cannot be right to take a life no matter how foul in this cold and calculated way. Punishment is justified but revenge is not. This is based on my personal conviction and not religion

WE are not killing Saddam.
He is being tried by an Iraqi court with an Iraqi Judge.
He will face the consequencies of his actions according to Iraqi law - the very law that he himself so brutally enforced (and, ironically probably had a hand in instigating in the first place).
Good riddance and justice for all those who suffered at his brutal hands.

Lets face it he only gave the orders but in my eyes that's just as good as committed the crimes himself. I do believe in a life for a life and he should die how ever maybe killing him is the easy way out for him,
imagine if its was our family's that had suffered in the fate of his hands how would we feel then ?

the bible says an eye for an eye.....and i strongly believe that...why should the iraqi's carry on paying for his meglomania...mind you now gone is the strutting despote and a miserable frighten old man will be put to death if he stays alive albeit in prison he will have followers and the killing will go on...you wont make him a martyr because after a awhile nobody will remember his name except in history books...

No. I do not believe there can ever be justification to take someone's life no matter how evil they are. Capital punishment make all of society into murderers.
I am an English atheist.
