You used to be able to talk to people in game rooms by clicking on their name and talking. Why cant you do this anymore??

I was playing Soul Calibur 3 today, and all the sudden it said that the file is corrupted and it wants me to delete the file. So, I'm wondering, can my save data for other games that are on that card be copied to a new memory card, or is all of the data on that card corrupted? And how can I prevent this from happening again, besides making back-up copies on a different card of every single game's data? I have a slim PS2.

I got a 3 yrs old son and he likes to drag all toy boxes I clean out to our living room and dump them out on the floor everyday.
