My husband and I are having some freinds over for dinner, and in traditional southern fashion, I am going to make a giant pot of gumbo (chicken and sausage, we have some picky eaters). I need a little hor d'ourve to serve beforehand. Any suggestions?

My Anthro college class is having an ethnic food day where everyone, about 50 people, each bring a type of food to share with everyone. The professor asks for unique items but most likely people will bring donuts to still bring something in.

What suggestions do you recommend? I dont have time to cook up a feast nor a lot of cash. Donuts seems like a good choice but most likely others will take it. So what else can I take? Thanks!

My son's birthday is 2 days after Christmas so he usually gets a small party since everything is so hectic this time of year. But this year, we want to do something special for him. We just moved into a new home a couple weeks ago and haven't had a chance to show it off yet. I want to have a party that is a birthday/housewarming. There will be probably half a dozen kids and a couple dozen adults. I'd like something both kids and adults would like to have, but something different from the big Christmas meals that we will all have 2 days before this. Any ideas for a menu? thanks!

Any new ideas for what to serve at a holiday brunch? Please keep in mind that it needs to vegetarian friendly and that includes no fish (fish is not vegetarian food). So far I was thinking of a bagel bar with various toppings (flavored cream cheeses, chopped onions, capers etc. but I need more ideas. Thanks!
