I ask this because each time someone asks what the best beer in the world is, most people reply Budweiser, Corona, Stella, or some other low end beer. I have to wonder how many of you buy only whatever's on sale at the supermarket.

BTW, I can honestly say I've tried well over 500 different brands of beer. I brew my own beer and write about for a beer newspaper.

I have heard of a few people that mixing water instead of softdrink/juice etc with alcohol such as voldka is alot healthier for you and wont bloat you as much. I believe this but wouldnt mixing it with plain water or tonic water be absolutely discusting to drink??...it seems like it would taste awful! does it? (i dont even like tonic water by itself!)

Is it cheaper to buy alcohol at Wal-Mart or at Hy-Vee?
What are the usual prices for Bacardi Limon and Michalob Ultra? I've never bought them before and therefore never really paid attention.

While traveling, I was in a city that banned hard liquor sales on Sunday, so my wife and I were served a white wine margarita and a red wine daquiri. They weren't bad! Anyone have a recipe to share?

Sometimes I get confused with volumes in metric and the English system.

So a "fifth" of alcohol is really 750mL because it is approximately one-fifth of a gallon. Is this true?

A handle is 1.75liters and has a handle on the bottle.

Is there any special name for a bottle that contains 1L (1000mL) of alcohol?

And I've heard that alcohol can be sold in 4.5Liter bottles. This is about 2.5 handles worth and is a little over a gallon. Special name? Has anyone had a bottle this big? Is it like 2 feet tall or what?

Also, does anyone know what cl means? For example 75cl? I am guessing centiliters, which means 750mL?

Thanks.

I'm off to the Reading Festival (a music festival for those not from the UK) tomorrow. Having suffered from 'peanut bladder' (ie needing to use the vile toilets excessively) at festivals in the past, I am reviewing my drinking choices. Help me choose!

-Spirits (less loo breaks, but I could peak early and have no memory of the headline bands, or fall in a hole or something- I have fallen down a hole when drunk before- hang head in shame)
-Lager (fave but may be peeing all weekend)
-Cider (or will I look like a sad late-20s professional-on-a-weekend-off type reliving their youth before going back to the 9-5?)

...suggestions welcome. Due to a current hangover mention of RED WINE will be met with immediate, violent sickness.

The bar we're going to doesn't do fancy mixed drinks, so I'm looking for something basic and not girly. And I'm not in the mood for beer.

I'm making a Chuck Roast tonight, marinated in merlot with parsley, thyme and onions. It seems to me that Cabernet would hold its own against this rich dish, but I'm not a big fan. Any other suggestions?
