I'm making a Chuck Roast tonight, marinated in merlot with parsley, thyme and onions. It seems to me that Cabernet would hold its own against this rich dish, but I'm not a big fan. Any other suggestions?

...I personally subscribe to drink what you like and don't worry about what goes with what.

The Merlot you used in the marinade might be OK, but would probably get lost. I'm not a big fan of Cabernet either. I usually like beer with beef, and a nice lager will hold its own with your beef (but its not as "classy").

What about a merlot similar to the one you are using for the marinade, That would be the best choice as food and wine together are supposed to compliment each others flavors

I enjoy a medium bodied Pinot Noir. I like Coppola Pinot a 2003. You can find this at most grocery stores, or I get it from a place in so. Cal called Bevrages and More (BevMo). its about a $12-14 bottle

A nice red one would do. Ideally, I would ask my local wine shop that I trust. They should be able to give you all sorts of suggestions.

Burgundy... preferably from the Rhine region. Something bold, yet captivating.

I would try something sort of fruity, full, red.

Try this inexpensive and readily availble wine:

Ravenswood, "Vintners Blend" Zinfandel
