What madness are we witnessing with the resumption of whaling by the Japanese, under the guise of scientific research! Commercial exploitation, more like it!!
What can we do to show our distaste for this barbaric practice!?

I am a water system distribution operator in the Atlanta, GA area. As most of the country knows...the south is in a severe drought and as a result, all outdoor watering in my area has been banned. I never realized how much water was being used for lawns, car washing, etc. (non-human consumption) until the ban went into effect. I find the following information a little shocking and sad at the same time...Before the outside water ban, the facility where I work was treating and pumping out about 18 million gallons a day and then AFTER the ban was implemented, we are only treating and pumping out between 7-9 million gallons a day!!! So that means more than HALF the water was being used for things other than human consumption / need!!! I find that amazing and disturbing at the same time. More water is being used for pretty lawns and clean cars? Our water use can not be much different than the rest of the country...mostly for non-human consumption if it is like our facility. Interesting???

Do Cell Phone Towers and the communication waves they produce really screw up bee's navigation systems? If so will this cause a global catastrophy if the bee's become exstinct because of their confusion and inability to hunt for food and bring it back to the hive? Are other animals such as birds or butterflies affected by Cell Phone Towers? If in fact Cell phone towers are causing the global extinction of bee's, a valuable part of our planet, should we limit or outlaw cell phone towers in protected areas around the world or simply band cell phones and the distructive towers like the use and production of nuclear arsonals?

I live in Carroll County Maryland and my BGE bill for a small duplex is $350.00/month. I rent so I am not able to upgrade the water heater or central air myself. Is BGE the only one or is there another electric company that supplies to my area that will be less expensive?

If they were slaughtered in a humane way and monitored to prevent overfishing of a certain species, something tells me people would still be apposed to this form of fishing. Why is that? Why can't people just treat these animals like they do any other animal that's fished/hunted for?

If somehow pests and parasites such as mosquitos, coachroaches, ticks, chiggers, intestional worms, etc. were to become endangered and were facing extinction, would there be a move to try to save them as we do other species?

I want a career in the animal care/conservation field but I don't know where to start. Most of the jobs available for people of my experience have nothing to do with animals. I am already volunteering at my local nature reserve, attending talks and guided walks on wildlife, and studying a course in animal behaviour. What's a good first job for getting my foot in the door in the wildlife field?

Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Atlanta are 3 of the 4 fastest growing cities in the USA.

http://promo.realestate.yahoo.com/americas_fastest_growing_cities.html

But all of these are having water problems. Las Vegas is in the middle of a desert and looking for new water sources, the southwest is in the middle of a 10 year drought which is forecast to last another 90 years, and Georgia is in the middle of a drought and is forecast to run out of water in 80 days.

To be fair, Georgia's problem is a new one, but why are these cities with serious water problems exacerbating the problem by continuing to grow rapidly? Is it the fault of people moving to the cities, of the fault of the cities themselves for not limiting growth?

My family just moved into a 5 bedroom house and the weather is getting kinda chilli. To make matters worse, my room stays cold constantly. I had an area heater with automatic shut-off to keep my room a certain temperature thoughout the days and nights. My mom told me not to use it because it might run up the utility bill. Now, she has the heater and my room is the only one that's really cold. And to make matters worse, it's about to snow. The only way that I can get it back is if I can convince her that my little area heater with automatic shut-off is more economic than the central heating system in our house that doesn't heat up my room in the first place..

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

:)

Sources are very much welcome and needed if possible... :)
