We all know how the evaporation cycle works, right? well, what if the sea water around the world were to get polluted enough, and that polluted water gets evaporated, would that mean the rain itself would be polluted in the sky? if thats the case, the dirty rain would fall to our fresh water lakes and rivers and creeks and be unsafe to drink. People in America don't want to pay more taxes for a freshwater plant, so they'll drink it as is. One day, would so many people be drinking contaminated water, they and animals around will start to die? What about countries around the world who don't have bottled water and have to drink straight out of the river? Will polluted sea water eventually turn to polluted fresh water?

1. List some examples of water damage and how humans try to prevent damage.
Information: floods, avalanches and tsunami. And I also know how human try to prevent these damages.
I need more examples. Can you give me some more and also tell me how humans to prevent those?

2. Do any of the ways in which humans try to prevent damage caused by water create other problems? Select few examples and discuss.
Information: Humans try to prevent floods by building levees and dikes. I just know two.But I don't know how levees and dikes create problems. But I can tell you how peole build them. Here:
Levees, long walls of earth, are built along the banks parallel to a river. They are designed to keep the river contained during flooding.
Dikes protect land that has been reclaimed from the ocean. Poeple also bulid dikes around their houses and towns when a flood threatens.
Thats all I know. Except this, I need more examples and how they create problems.
Please help me!!!

Self-contained, sealed cities are doable, but how about atmospheric change? Is the radiation level a major barrier? Would water and oxygen stay put?

In a wastewater to keep pH at 7 one can use KH2PO4 and K2HPO4 as phosphate buffer. but is there an upper limit for their supplied concentration?

e.g. a wastewater sample with 2500 mg/l SCOD (pH = 5.5)(characteristics close to pulp and paper). I supply 1200 mg/l KH2PO4 & 2400 mg/l K2HPO4. at the end of reaction pH goes up to 8.6. I want to keep it 7 - 7.5 and for this purpose I am thinking of increasing concentrations of buffer.. but i dont know if there is a risk of phosphate overdosing???

I've heard there is a lighting system applied on some roads which is able to control the lights installed on the sides of the road.
Whenever there is no car on the road it keep the lights on with the least power,in fact it turns the lights down and
when there is a car entering on one of the slip roads,it switches on the lights for a certain time but this time with the most
power. It keeps them on for 2 or 3 min and by this way, it helps to save the energy.

Many thanks!

We all know gas prices are high. I think they will only get higher, save some dips in the off-season. The issue is all the energy we use, not just our cars. Some say alternative fuels. Is it possible to simply switch over to ethenol? No. Should we be thinking about the way we live, our infrastructure, public transportation, how far and often we drive?

The cost of heating and cooling our homes will also continue to rise. Is there significant wind and solar technologies as an alternative? Nuclear, coal, hydro? What do you think?

Well, we use Reverse Osmosis in our house to filter out water because it is too hard to be consumed in our neighbourhood. And there is another pipe, thro which the impure water is let out through. now, that impure water goes down the sink drain. There is absolutely no comprehensive and easy way of tapping that water and re-using that i have thought of. Your help would be valuable.

I don't want to wait until I've used up all of the incandescent light bulbs in my house. I want to replace them all now with compact fluorescent ones, to begin saving energy immediately. What is the best way to dispose of the old, but not dead incandescent ones I remove from fixtures, as well as a stock of un-used incandescent bulbs that I have kept as spares? If I give them away (to Goodwill, for example) they will be wasting energy in someone else's home, but throwing them away seems wasteful. What should I do?

I was just flicking the channels today when I heard that the UN is issuing its 3 report on climate change. The report said something about how the report states simple things individuals could do to help the enviroment and reduce global warming effects. Can anybody give me any ideas on things I could do?

2007-05-04 04:34:31 · 8 answers · asked by The Quack D 1

and say that it is just natural climate change shouldn't they still be concerned with the results?
If everything the global warming doomsday soothsayers believe will happen due to global warming, wont it still happen if it is climate change?
Shouldnt we start building our cities to be prepared for this change, and secure resources for this change now.
Personally I believe it is climate change, example of why: the ancient egyptions didnt have green house gases and look at how their world changed. the grassland acros the nile was much much more than it is now, same goes for Iraq. and I may have been misinformed but wasnt the Sahara desert once a lush rainforest? but just because i buy into the climate change idea more than the global warming idea doesnt mean i think we should keep polluting.

Oh, and the third alternative i have heard regarding the change is... its the rapture. And i dont give that any time.

I remember rolling the globs in my hands and seeing others doing it. Yeah, we were told it was hazardous but apparantly not so much that we couldnt handle it? Now if its spilled somewhere THE ENTIRE AREA has to be evacuated. Is this just paranoia?!
