I work for a company that brings energy conservation inventions/products/technologies to market, so yea, I have quite a few ideas, all going through patenting, sorry.
That said, the guy who mentioned the fries with the ketchup in them is on to something. Why? Well, here are some guidelines for a very marketable idea.
1. It should have a gimmick, that gives the impression of real utility. It need not be all that useful.
2.Price and cost should have nothing to do with each other. Do the materials in a Louis Vuitton product, combined with labor and shipping, equal anything near the retail price? No way. It is the image/impression/branding of luxury. Similarly, there are products that capitalize on their cheapness, even though they are a needless purchase. The singing fish comes to mind. It is a product that is actually marketed as a cheap, gaudy, valuess item, except for kitsch purposes.
The clip light isn't bad, but you need a gimmick. Clip lights are made by a bazillion gadget companies. Why is yours different?
A perfect example of what I mean is the water fueled fireplace. Have you seen this? It splits the water into its hydrogen and oxygen components trough electrolysis (similar to what they call Brown's Gas, but slightly different). The hydrogen vents through the burners, while the pure oxygen is vented into the room over the burners, to regulate the flame and spread into the room. Every model but the smallest is shaped as a very elaborate object de art, usually with a mirrored interior. The cheap little crappy model starts at 50K.
The important thing is establishing your retail base and distribution. Your clip light, for example, would have to be contracted and built in China (nobody does that kind of thing in the US) and shipped to a US port, then forwarded to you or your retailers' warehouses. est case scenario, you get bought up by Whammo, or some such.
Another great area fo ideas is a USB gimmick. I saw a flash drive that was in a glow in the dark duckie. The thing was priced 4 times higher than the same size flash drive with no neato housing. The Japanese freak for that kind of stuff. USB gimmick things are pretty hot.
Good Luck!

I always wanted to invent a backpack that has an umbrella built in somehow. Like you would push a button and it would pop out. But then i realized that it could poke someone's eye out like that. LOL. It would be pretty cool though don't you think? With all the crap kids have to carry around these days for school it would make it easier.

Okay, here's one I've been hoping someone would make...it would help me (and my coworkers) a bunch!
I need for my keyboard to have a "crumb tray" like my toaster has...All of us at the office work through our lunch breaks, and there's a constant battle to keep our keyboards clean. If there was an easy way to get rid of the gunk inside, that would be great!

How about a cushion/pad for your laptop so that, if you happen to drop it because you're freakin clumsy, it doesn't break.
