Hi! When a string quartet performs as the members sit in a half-circle, it looks like that they are usually arranged as 1st violin-2nd violin-cello-viola, going clockwise. (and yet sometimes it seems that they are arranged as 1st violin-2nd violin-viola-cello) Does the seat arrangement HAVE TO BE this way? Any reason why?

I am a musician and one of the things I haven't quite understand yet is why did this transition happened. Isn't modality more diverse? There is ionian (major tonality), dorian, phrygian, lydian, myxolydian, aeolian (almost minor tonality), (locrian) and if we include key changes etc. a composer has a lot more material at his disposal than major and minor harmonic and melodic tonalities. So why did that happen?

Hello,

I'm looking for a certain piece of music. It sounds like it's from an old dracula film, and that it should be played on an organ (But the music is for piano). I think it has the word Fugue in the name if that helps.

Please, please, please help me. All i need is the name, or a place where i can download it for free.

Thanks,
~Steven~

I'm currently majoring in piano performance (bachelor of music degree with honours) at a local music conservatory. I would like to further my musical studies in europe after I graduate. Does anyone know any websites that can tell me more about the european conservatories (not just the famous schools)? I've tried searching for 'studying music in europe' on google, yahoo, etc. and nothing particularly useful came up. Calling in isn't an option (overseas call fees) for now. My further studies will be obviously majoring in piano performance (like getting a Masters degree or equivalent qualifications), but I'm also thinking of possibly doing a minor in classical vocal studies if I've the potential to (as yet I'm not very sure what my potential is, but according to my vocal teacher, she says I've quite a good voice and will definitely be able to at least teach next time). I've only recently started vocal lessons. Any helpful info on how studying in europe may be like would be appreciated.

I'm a junior in high school this year and in less than a year I'll be auditioning for a handful of universities and conservatories. I'm wondering if anyone has some good suggestions for pieces I could prepare for it. Right now I'm playing Edouard Lalo's Symphonie Espagnole. I really would be willing to work at absolutely anything. So, suggestions would be helpful. Especially from anyone who has experience with this or in someway has special knowledge that could be to my assistance.

For example, what might one have to play to be in the running for a school such as Julliard, Eastman, or Curtis?
