sometimes it takes several years to be able to coordinate everything.... sometimes several years per hand (left hand technique vs bow arm) ... at this point make sure you play "bold" big LOUD full bows ... it will make bigger squawks but the good sounds will also be better and bigger

good luck
violin is hard work but good hard work

EDIT make sure you don't worry how long it takes ... cause everyone takes their own time and the strings don't make a significant difference until you start getting better and neither does the rosin ... just take YOUR time and you will get there

It took me about 12 months . Let me ask you a few questions :
1. Are you practising for at least one hour every day?
2.Are you spending time practising long bow strokes?
3.Do you have a teacher ? Get her to look at your bowing technique.
4.Do you have good strings and good rosin ? If not, get a set of Dominant strings immediately. It is difficult to get a nice sound from the cheaper strings.(A professional can do it, but for a beginner it is almost impossible.)

It is a difficult instrument. Please keep trying and you will get there eventually.

EDIT : THE QUALITY OF YOUR STRINGS WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

NEVER!

I'm not a fan of solo string instruments, but when in an ensemble they sound great.

There is no true answer to this question. It varies on a musician to musician level. Keep practicing and all great will come when it is your time.

Don't give up. Remember people get hardships but you must push through.

I don't know how it is for adults, but for for a children and adolescents, it takes 3 years if the student is diligent at it.
If the student isn't diligent at it, never.
