Why is it these dasys movies produced are generally very dark? This is very different to the olden days when movies were brighter.

For example, the old version of "The Planet of the Apes" by Charlten Heston is very brightly lited. This is in contrast to the remake some years back which shows a movie that is generally very dark and black.

Similarly, all the version of Batman movies are also all very dark. This is quite different from the original Batman movie by Adam West and Burt Ward, which is so much brighter.

Many movies these days are also all very dark. When they are telecasted on television, I need to turn up the brightness and contrast to a high level to see properly the images on screen.

Hey, don't get the wrong idea. These are all good movies. And they are all very well prodiced. The only thing is, why are they are all darker than before?

Why is this so? Can't Hollywood producers make their movies brighter?

w/all due respect to mr. daniel craig, whom i will try very hard to view objectively this fall, what about the following top five for consideration to play agent 007:
#1 - adrian paul, tv's highlander. he could handle the action(like connery), he's a ruggedly good looking guy(like connery), and he looks pretty menacing when he wants to.
#2 - christian bale - for the same reasons as above. in between bat-films, think he would put a verrrry interesting stamp on the character.
#3 - colin farrell - for the same reasons. though he has expressed no interest and is quite too short in stature, i would like to see him in character and take a whack w/one film, at least.
#4 - clive owen - my least fave on the list but, after seeing him in the bourne identity, i had 2nd thoughts that maybe he could pull it off.
#5 - sean connery...still! the one and only bond! perhaps he could pull off the ultimate and film.....the death of james bond and put all future speculaton to rest, what say you?

I saw it on Lifetime sometime between '97 - '01. All I remember are a few scenes near the end. In one scene, a mother is tied to a chair in the kitchen, she's wearing jeans, another woman is there holding the mother's baby in one hand and a gun in the other. Then the gunholder's boyfriend or husband or whatever comes in, he's in a rush for some reason, he's looking through all the drawers until he finds a cloth or something and blindfolds the woman tied to the chair. The next scene, the couple are taking the female hostage to the docks, she's walking with her hands tied behind her back and blindfolded, they take her to a boat where they start to put her in a sack and tie a rope around it, before they can finish, the female hostage struggles and manages to push them both off the boat and free herself. That's all I remember. Does this movie sound familiar to anyone?
