Why is it these dasys movies produced are generally very dark? This is very different to the olden days when movies were brighter.

For example, the old version of "The Planet of the Apes" by Charlten Heston is very brightly lited. This is in contrast to the remake some years back which shows a movie that is generally very dark and black.

Similarly, all the version of Batman movies are also all very dark. This is quite different from the original Batman movie by Adam West and Burt Ward, which is so much brighter.

Many movies these days are also all very dark. When they are telecasted on television, I need to turn up the brightness and contrast to a high level to see properly the images on screen.

Hey, don't get the wrong idea. These are all good movies. And they are all very well prodiced. The only thing is, why are they are all darker than before?

Why is this so? Can't Hollywood producers make their movies brighter?

Every director has their own vision and uses the camera to show this. If we did not see life through a variety of darker and lighter visions then cinematic life would be literally DULL. Check out Spielberg's work these days: which movies would you say are dark and bright. Use both visions and you entertain your audience and show your talents at the same time.

the original batman comic was dark and brooding, the series in the 60's with adam west was tongue in cheek and great fun. the reason why new films are so much darker is because they are trying to hold true to the original format of what they are trying to emulate. back in the 40's there was a style of film called film noir, murder, shadows double dealings and twists. with batman and planet of the apesremakes they were made by tim burton who does have a very dark humourous streak to his persona. its the 21st century and a lot of film makers have a very bleak outlook on life and shoot accordingly. the days of dorothy in oz are long gone so is technicolor
