You guys probably get this a lot in this forum, but I would greatly appreciate your insight into bands I should listen to and why you love them. Here is some info about my music tastes, so if you like any of what I like, maybe you can help me out. I know great music still must be coming out, I just can't find any of it.
First off, I am very lyric oriented and I love perfect imperfect voices. Here are some bands I like (please only comment to share your music, not to mock my tastes)--

-Postal Service
-Bright Eyes
-Magnetic Fields
-loved Smashing Pumpkins for well over a decade
-The Decemberists
-Ben Folds
-Tori Amos
-Ani Difranco
-Julie Dorin
-Sarah White
-Radiohead
-Weezer
-The Killers ...

So if you are bored, please share. Remember to say why you love the bands you share.

Where does she get off saying money is being wasted looking for the lost climbers on Mt Hood? Besides the fact that practically every "fact" she cited is wrong, why is this any of her business? Why does she feel that she has to open her big mouth to comment on every little thing she has no idea about?

And WOW, could she possibly be more insensitive to these families who just found out their loved one is dead, or about to be left for dead? Do you really have to voice every idiotic, heartless thought that flits through your head on national TV?

Is anyone else disgusted and infuriated by this? Why do they keep giving her shows?

Betty and Mabel are out for a drive. Betty is enjoying the scenery when she notices that Mabel went through a red light. Betty isn't sure so she just starts paying a bit more attention. Sure enough, they go through another red light.

Betty says, "Mabel, I don't want to worry you but I think we just ran a red light."

Mabel gasps,"Am I driving?!?"

To me, it seems like these six states receive so much bad press about their supposed backwardness, intelligence quotas, intolerance, etc. (What is interesting is that the same people who proudly boast their intellectual independence are the same ones who vividly and unabashedly disrespect the South and Midwest.

Each state has its advantages and disadvantages.

As for me...
Best:
1. Tennessee. Thriving job market, breathtaking beauty (especially the Smokies,) BBQ, live music, Nashville and Memphis are cool cities.
2. S. Carolina. Nice people, laid back, you have beaches in the east and mountains in the upcountry.

Least favs:
1. West Virginia: while not all of it is backwards, I'll admit it is generally about 15 years behind the times. It creeps me out at night. The largest city in the state has fewer than 55,000 people.
2. Kentucky. People there are rude, some small towns are very clannish. Folks do actually sit on their porches with shotguns--no lie. Not very progressive.
