Of Montreal - not always poetic, but great indie-pop music. very friendly
Blackfield - their self-titled album is a poetic masterpiece, just about all of the songs make pain seem like such a beautiful thing
Doves - their first album Lost Souls is incredible. i dont know how else to describe it. not too artsy, not too structured.
The La's - the vocals are the quirky, love it or hate it kind of thing. great catchy music.

Evanescence is pretty damn incredible. The singer's voice is amazing (she's one of my favorite rock vocalist), and they make music that they love despite what others may think. It's classified as goth rock, but I'm not a goth so I don't know how accurate that is. The lyrics are deep and emotional, it's almost like therapy. Reccomended Songs: Whisper or their current single Lithium.
I'm kinda into Panic! at the Disco. They have a nice sound, but the lyrics need work. With time they can be great. Recomended song: Camisado or Current single: Lying Is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking off Her Clothes
Fall Out Boy is pretty awesome, although some say that their new music is pop. I still love them. Patrick's Stump's voice is gold. Recomended song: Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part To Save The Scene Or Stop Going To Shows) Current single: This Ain't a Scene It's An Arms Race
30 Seconds to Mars is worming it way into my heart. I love the fact that the lead sing is an actor who actually has musical talent. Some of the lyrics are great and some are wtf-ish. Recommed song: Buddha for Mary. Current Single: From Yesterday
My Chemical Romance is cool. They're dramatic in a way remenisant of Queen, but the music is totatly different. If you love the imperfect voice, then you'll love Gerard Way. Recommended song: Mama Current single: Welcome to the Black Parade

I find the lyrics beautiful, some times dark but that's another reason why i Love them. The singer has an amazing voice. It's rock music, But with a bit of goth to make it softer.

I will list my top bands of all time (not really in any order)
Bush - All time favourite band. Best lyrics, tempo, mood, emotion, instrumentation, hooks, fusion, on and on...'Prizefighter','Letting the Cables Sleep','Alien','Fugitive','Land Of The Living'
Daft Punk - Absolutely amazing energy from these 2 androids. They can't do anything wrong. I've turned many friends on to DP! - 'Human After All','The Brainwasher','Oh Yeah','Voyager','Around The World','Digital Love'
The Offspring - Amazing lyrics from their older albums. Better sounds on their newer ones. Just a whole whack of fun to listen to these guys. - 'Vultures','Lightning Rod','Terhan','Forever And A Day','Burn It Up','Autonomy','Not The One','All I Want','One Fine Day','Pay The Man'
The Strokes - Makes me dance. Also turned many friends on to The Strokes. - 'When It Started','ize Of The World','Ask Me Anything','Meet Me In The Bathroom','Soma'
Incubus - Loved 'I Miss You' for years. Then my current g/f opened me up to their albums. The rest is history. Their most recent 'Light Grenades' - 10 Stars! - 'Oil & Water','Diamonds & Coal','Consequence','A Crow Left Of The Murder','Sick Sad Little World','Warning'
David Usher - Musical genius. Very well put together albums. Good to see live. Fantastic music and artists.
No Doubt - Wow, I almost forgot to mention. No Doubt is amazing. She can sing, she can move. The band - 'F' me! The band! Tony, sick bass player! Tom, sher-reds that guitar! And Mr. Young - Wicked dumming! Try to listen to them individually. Like 'Sixteen'.
Radiohead - You know why - 'Where I End And You Begin'
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Makes me move, sing, and want to share it. - 'Animal Bar'
Others I like :
Dave Matthews Band
Silverchair

I know that I am quit a bit older than you but I run into the same problem and I will stop listening to the radio and just listen to my c.d.s. And then I will hear a new song or group that I like and I am back in to the radio again. My taste in music is different that your but I love...............................
John Mayer.
Nora Jones. Such a wonderful calming voice
And I love country.
Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith...
I know it would all be very different than what you are used to listening to but maybe that is what you need. A total change of pace.....
