have an autistic child as well as I am a paraprofessional in special education. I work in my sons class. There is a little boy in his class that is aggressive. The parents refuse to seek medication. this boy kicks, scratches, pinches, spits, hits...you name it. He has to be watched at all time because he will grab anything and destroy it. Ive never seen anything like it and I have a severly autistic son myself. Nothing can be left down, drinks food...or it will end up everywhere. Well I was his teacher today and he boxed my ear so hard I lost hearing for a day. He also assulted my son a few minutes later where i almost took my son and walked out. My question, what rights does a teacher have?!?! I know all rights my son has as a student but how much abuse can someone take before the school will step in and force the parents to wake up! I love working in spec. ed but this child is the extreme . He has already scratched another teachers cornea . Cant find anything on the net, help!

My son is 5 years old. He is completly deaf in his left ear and can't use a hearing aid due to complications. He has only 50% hearing in the right ear and is at risk for loosing it completely. I want to teach him sign language now, so if he does loose the right ear, we can still communicate. I do not know sign language. I have looked around, and have not yet been able to locate a sign language class for children Any IDEAS?

What does it mean to you to live large? For instance, can a disabled person live large in life if they can't work or travel. What does that look like if they do? I'm trying to narrow down what people think is a large life and what it really is.

Best,
Mark

My son is 17 and has mild autism. Sometimes it's difficult because he doesn't have very many friends and he wants to do things he just can't do yet like drive. He may be able to get a job next semester though. He is one of the biggest joys in my life. It's hard to watch him struggle though.

I know there is a way the state of colorado is sposed to give federal funding to children like my daughter who have major delays for a full day of kindergarten. The district saying it doesn't exist and I know I'm being lied too
But the state of colorado and this school is giving a full day of kindergarten to children who are illegal for free. I asked why at the IEP meeting and the princible denyed the program on there website exisited. It even said full day kindergarten for ESL, they go for free!
Yey, they want my husband and I to pay for a full day of kindergarten for my daughter who she has a delay in 6 areas. She is getting therpies at school but she is only in class 40% . Her school day is only 2 hrs 50 mins -60% for therpy out of class. Besides sueing and calling the newspapers is there a way to give my daughter a full day of school? I have another meeting.
I've been told I'm doing a better job at getting services for my daughter than most here.

He's in 4th grade and we've just discovered he's dyslexic. Traditional schools are not working for him. He needs to be taught in a different way because of his dyslexia, but we don't have a lot of money for private school (but we also won't qualify for any financial assistance). If you have a child with dyslexia, what do you recommend we do next? He's already in an IEP program, but it's not helping much.
