I want to start my daughter earlier than allowed by the local school system. I'm willing to have her tested to see if she is in fact ready for this leap, but want to know if it's even possible to start her if the test says she's ready. And who do I contact about getting a test? AND, my daughter tends to clam up with strangers, especially when one-on-one, so how can I make sure a test is accurate?

My daughter is 4, her birthday is in December, which means she won't go to kindergarten for another year and a half. She really seems ready NOW. This concerns me because I don't want her to get bored waiting around to learn new things. I have a bad habit of thinking that she is way too young for something, then she goes and does it no problems. She figures things out on her own all the time. For instance, she can tell time to the hour. No one taught her this, she just figured out how to do it. She started daycare in the fall, and she has really thrived in the classroom setting- listens to the teacher, follows directions, etc. She has started reading a few words, doing simple math, etc.

I think she is ready, and want to have her tested to be sure. One problem- she clams up in one-on-one situations. Her teacher says whenever she takes my daughter aside to assess her abilities, she totally shuts down. I've seen her do this many times- it's like she can't stand the

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day,he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM " He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM . Wake up."

A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position.

As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?"

"Yep," the wife replied , " in-laws

She tends to be a little lazy at all things not just school learning. I try to do fun activities, but it lasts about a minute and she's bored and wants to do something else. (she doesn't have a short attention span, she'd just rather be doing something else other than learning letters or whatever.) We don't have a problem with our 6 yr old who loves doing workbooks and other fun educational things at home. So how do I motivate the youngest without pushing too hard. Rewards don't make a difference to her...she'll choose to go without rather than work. Who's heard of a 4 yr old you can't win over with a reward? Maybe she's smarter than I think if reverse psychology doesn't work at her age.

I am currently working in the first montessori school of my country which only opened for 15 months. I had in-house training for montessori method which i checked online was very accurate. But my doubt is the way my school runs. My school is only for children of 3-6 yrs olds. Everyday children have 1 hour of work period which means working with the montessori materials. Every week the children have 2 30mins collective lessons which teach about invertebrates, solar system, enerygy forms and etc. Can the children their ages absorb such complicated topics? and is 1 hour of work period enough for them? do they have seperate time for music, art and PE like my school? my school starts at 8:30 till 11:30.. is it too long or too short? How do montessori schools in another countries run?

I found most of the educational websites foir children are quite dull and boring or just too many words! I need a website which offers various activities for children, with more graphics, more games, comes with a sound, and can gain interest in children. One good example is:

But I need more! Please help! Thanks!

I have two children, both attending a play school, one in pre-school level and other one in after-school programme. I am very satisfied with the school and my children's development. I have been asked to talk on stage with regard to my experience and satisfaction with the school. I am not a very great speaker, but do not want to say no to the school as I am very much satisfied with the school. I want to express my thanks to the management on my children's development. I would request some help from my reader friends to draft me a good speech, with flowery words to show my gratitude to the school. I hope YOU, my friends, would certainly help me in this, urgently. Thanks and with best regards.

I am very burned out right now. I teach pre-k sunday school, teach the kids a midweek lesson while their parents have their own worship session. I babysit regularly, and I am so busy when I catch a cold (inevitable since I spend 75 percent of my time with preschoolers and babies) I can't fight it off. I was just wondering if anyone gets as burned out as I am right now. ugh! Luckily for me, I found a teacher for me for this next Sunday, I am so excited! I am freshman in high school by the way...

I'm working with children aged 3-5 years in australia and the childcare centre has just introduced an emergent curriculum. I have extensive experience with an emergent curriculm but the parents at the centre are worried that the children just 'play' all day and no learning is happening. I have written in the newsletter all about the value of a play based program and the values of play in each learning area but they still just want their kids to learn ABC and numbers. I have also copied readings about the benefits of this type of program. I believe these things should be taught in a play situation and not forced in a structured environment. Anyone had experiece with an emergent curriculum and can give ideas on how to educate parents?
Thanks :)

I have one daughter who just turned 1. I want to give her the best educational advantage I can, even at this early age. (For instance, right now she's watching a "First Impressions" dvd and learning about shapes.) What should I be working with her on, exposing her to, and teaching her, even at this young age, to help set her up for her future to have the best educational success possible? Any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
