I can use at home? I've heard of Rosetta Stone on the radio. I want to visit another country & would like to be able to communicate on some level. If you have no personal knowledge of a system that works, please don't answer. I've done my own research & this one seem like the best so far.

Are our schools teaching to the standard tests that the states have us take? I mean instead of learning of the past wars and treaties signed in history class, we have to take math tests... Anyone else see the problem developing? In Chicago, there was a school that took away all of their extra curriculars , so there students could focus on the basics: math, science, and english. Are we creating robots? Test take away the most important things that we need in real life: creativity, imagination, and the ability to communicate..filling in circles? what does that prove? input please.

Orchestral and choral rehearsals are always competing with sporting activities at lunch times and after school in 'club' times. This forces children to choose music or PE at a very early stage and they frequently have to give up the other activity because of lack of practice time.
How many of you have found (in your youth maybe) that you were virtually forced to give up either a sport, or a musical activity (or instrument)?

I took an alternative route to get home tonight and ended up coming through Headingley centre. I was not going fast and was driving quite cautiously, however, I nearly ran over about 6 students who just walked out into the road without checking. Also, there were about three people cycling with no reflective gear or any kind of lighting on their bikes.

These are supposed to be intelligent types who are doing further education / a degree of some description... How do they get into uni when they can't even master the basics of crossing the road?

I know this chick who is really busy these days; she works full time, plays sports and is taking several online college courses. Anyway, last week sometime I told her that I am good at science and that I can help her with her homework. She said she was going to get with me this weekend, but didn't call me until Sunday night.....at that time I didn't even feel like answering the phone. I have her assighnment, which is to draw 3 population pyramids, one for Ethiopia, Indonesia and one for the UK...then it says write a short, 3 pg. essay explaining the pyramids and comparing and contrasting the three. I don't know how I volunteered for this, but it kind of became a deal where I was just going to do the whole thing for her. So it is due in a few days, and I told her I would give it to her tonight.....but I am totaly stuck and can't seem to think of a damn thing to write. I am good at science, but this feels more like history to me.....what should I say to her? What should I do?

I was just wondering what everyones views were on modern education in London, as a parent, a student, or just an onlooker. Do you think the London schools are effective, as a whole, or are they seeking failure? Do you think immigration rates will effect education in the future?

(I'm not actually looking to move to London(I live here already) but I'm trying to do some research on peoples' viewpoints on the topic.)
