I can use at home? I've heard of Rosetta Stone on the radio. I want to visit another country & would like to be able to communicate on some level. If you have no personal knowledge of a system that works, please don't answer. I've done my own research & this one seem like the best so far.

I can safely say that I have tried no less than 5 learn-at-home language programs to learn Spanish. The only one that has helped me has been the "Learn in Your Car" series (available for several languages, I believe). The absolute best way for most people to really learn how to speak a second language conversationally is to be immersed in it. Sure, you'll get the basics from any decent learn by yourself program, but none that I have encountered truly can emulate what it's really like to actually speak with someone in a second language.

You have got to be competent to speak with different humans within the language you desire to gain knowledge of.
