I was just wondering what everyones views were on modern education in London, as a parent, a student, or just an onlooker. Do you think the London schools are effective, as a whole, or are they seeking failure? Do you think immigration rates will effect education in the future?

(I'm not actually looking to move to London(I live here already) but I'm trying to do some research on peoples' viewpoints on the topic.)

infant & primary I have found very good, but secondary, whoa dont get me started, kids these days get away with everything,my son just started secondary school & half his class are brats & thats being nice, his class sounds rife, teacher or no teacher the kids do as they please & there is little punishment, like a 10 minute dentention for the whole class.my son has been stabbed with a pen,had his bag stolen, tripped up & had his head stamped on,I took him out of school for a week, had 2 meetings & nothing was resolved, the kids got away with it,no wonder bullying is rife,I've got him home now am not sending him back, yesterday he got punched in the face in class & the teacher did nothing at all,no way Im sending my son to that,he's very clever & wants to learn that makes him different apparently, but makes me proud because he could just turn around & join in but he doesnt, even he at 11 can see how stupid these kids are being & they think they're cool.I dont know why the teachers dont want to do anything about bullies & bad behaviour, maybe they're afraid of being sued about something.

I think the Govt have done a good job with primary schools - standards are definitely higher, but have neglected the secondary. They've got to get to grips with discipline in secondary schools and stupid liberal ideas like mixed ability teaching. Ideally bring back selective schools (which in the old days used to get working class kids into oxbridge) or if that's not possible at least make streaming/setting in comps compulsory. Also kids who can't speak/read/write English regradless of race etc have to have special concentrated schooling in that until they can

BETTER than the ones in the United States, that is for sure. I don't mean to knock americans, but their education system is something that leaves allot to be desired.

I have zero faith in secondary schools. It speaks volume when you see politicians send their children to private school.

I'm working class but would advise any Brit, if you can afford private education take it.
