I was out doing some things in the front garden the other day, and the kids across the street were being silly, and yelling hello, and wiggling like crazy. I was yelling hello right back, and wiggling, as well. They are immigrants, and their parents don't speak English very well, so I thought they might not know how to do the Hokey Pokey. While we were having an impromptu Hokey Pokey class on my lawn, some other kids from the neighborhood came and joined us, and I was very surprised that although they were born and raised here in the US, they had never even heard of the Hokey Pokey. I taught kids from four different families that day, and NONE of them had any idea such a silly song/dance/game existed. That made me wonder if the Hokey Pokey has been banned in schools or something. When I was a kid, you learned it in Kindergarten if you didn't already know it, and it was a favorite activity. Has the Hokey Pokey disappeared?
