I dont get this problem.... help!!!!!

use the pythagorean therom to solve for x: the legs are 5 and 17 and the hypotenuse is x.

My answer was 17.72004515 but it doesnt look right.... is it?

were doing this thing in math class where we didide up a circle into degrees, minutes, and seconds , where min + sec stand in for fractions
and we divide up a clock in to 12 hours (obvious) and there is 30* between each number, so 1:00 is 30* and 3:00 is 90* but what i dont get is if it is, say 1:25, is is somewhere between 90* and 120* but we have to be exact
to set up the problem for 1:25, it would look somewhat like this:
90* + a fraction out of 30= the answer
but i dont know where to get the fraction

can you help please

i would ask my math teacher, but he doesnt explain well + confuses me more

this is a logic puzzle
alan, ben, and cal are seated face to back with their eyes closed. three hats are placed on their head from a box they know contains 3 red and 2 blue. they open their eyes and look forward.
alan says 'i cannont deduce what color hat i'm wearing'
hearing that ben says i cannot deduce what color hat i'm wearing either'.
