were doing this thing in math class where we didide up a circle into degrees, minutes, and seconds , where min + sec stand in for fractions
and we divide up a clock in to 12 hours (obvious) and there is 30* between each number, so 1:00 is 30* and 3:00 is 90* but what i dont get is if it is, say 1:25, is is somewhere between 90* and 120* but we have to be exact
to set up the problem for 1:25, it would look somewhat like this:
90* + a fraction out of 30= the answer
but i dont know where to get the fraction

can you help please

i would ask my math teacher, but he doesnt explain well + confuses me more

thanxs

Okay, here's how I'd solve it:

-First of all, set it up as a porportion problem. Here's an example of what a porportion problem looks like if you're not sure: http://www.kcc.cc.il.us/asc/bmyers/Images/guided16.gif
-Convert all hours to minutes by multiplying your hours by 60. For example, in your problem with the clock, 12 hours would be 720 in minutes.
- Convert your time (which in your case, it's 1:25) to minutes. Your time is 1:25, meaning that you have 85 minutes.
-Set up the porportion as this: the time IN MINUTES over 720 (because it's out of 12 hours) minutes equals x over 360 (you're finding the degrees out of 360). In other words, 85/720 = x/360.
-Cross-multiply. 85 times 360 = 30,600. Divide it by 720.
-The answer is 42.5 degrees.

Each hour = 30 deg, so

60 mins = 30 deg, so

1 min = 30/60 = 1/2 deg, so

25 min = 25 x 1/2 deg = 12 1/2 deg, so, at 1:25, the angle between the hands of a clock is

30 + 12 1/2 deg,

42 1/2 deg.

Hope this helps, Twiggy.

each hour = 25 degrees
then each minute = 25/60 degrees = 5/12 degree

1:25 = 30 degrees + 25*5/12 = 30 + 125/12 = 40 degrees 5/12 of a degree, so 40 degrees, 25 minutes (here a minute is a 60th of a degree and not a 60th of an hour)
