Doesn't that pretty much disqualify you from anything above community college?

"...but how can they offer an entire education?" is a comment that came as an answer to another question on this Answers board. It implies that "they" cannot possibly offer enough material and activities to provide an entire K-12 education. The fact is that many students have indeed received a complete K-12 education at home and they are now in the workplace and college -- some have graduated from college and are now well into their career.
The answers that home schoolers give to my question should provide a better understanding of the reality of home school to those that aren't sure about it.

I am worried about my childrens education within the inner city state school system when they reach secondary school. Not only what they learn in class but what they pick up from other children in the playground. I am not an over protective parent I am just looking at alternatives.

I notice quite a few students (?) making comments and disparaging remarks about their parents and home school. Do you realize how much better you could do for yourself if you made it your goal to excel in your studies? I can't imagine how difficult it must be for your parents to have to deal with your bad attitudes.
Home study is a great blessing -- it can be your best ally for a strong and smart future. Don't waste your time fighting about it --- study and get on with life.

I have talked to my counsolor at school and the principle. She gave me two programs that I could check out, but they cost over 50$ a month.
I've heard that you can make your own curriculum? if you do that, how much would it cost?

any other information would be great!

I don't want Californians taking as fact misinformation. Does anyone here homeschool in CA, who can give legitimate info so that people are not misled? One poster, who cannot be emailed claims that in CA you can only homeschool in highschool for one year, but according to http://hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=CA home school options for CA and the Coalfax's book "Homeschooling for Excellence" that is not true. Perhaps the poster was misled?

We're in Florida. I'm only asking to help give correct into to potential CA home schoolers.

I'm about to start homeschooling using an online college prep diploma prgram. I dont have my drivers license, and wont have it untill February 2007. My mom of course isnt going to take me out anywhere during the week. What can I do for entertainment while I'm stuck in the house all week?

What do you homeschoolers do to entertain yourselves? :P

I dont mind being stuck inside, though. I'm a computer nerd, but I'm just curious what others so. ;P

Do you feel you missed out on anything by not being in public school? Do you feel you received a good education in order to get a job?

I am curious because I used to teach in the public school system.

There seems to be a growing belief in this forum that homeschooled kids spend a large portion of their days watching TV or playing video games. If you homeschool your kids, please share how much time they spend on average each day or what their limits may be for a week.

For us, our kids are usually not allowed any TV, videos or video games during the week. They are usually allowed one video on the weekend and some video game playing time--30 minutes each Friday evening and then again on Saturday. So, they don't even actually watch any TV (cable) itself for the most part. There may be exceptions to the video rule if they've found an educational video at the library or because we've decided to be more lax for a given week.

Compare this to the 'average' American child who spends 3-4 hours a DAY watching TV.
