A word spelled the same way may have the same form but assume different functions depending on what it does, or is supposed to do.

Example 1: (Who lied?) I think it was I.

"I" retains the same pronoun form but performs different functions. The first "I" functions as the subject; the second, as an object.

Example 2: Am I revealing my ignorance?

"Revealing" can either be a verb or an adjective. As used (function) above, it is in the verb form and functions as a verb (meaning "to make (something secret or hidden) publicly or generally known ; to open up to view").

But its function would be different in the example below:

Example 3: Is my ignorance revealing?

"Revealing", though spelled the same, has changed form from verb (meaning "showing, exposing") to adjective (meaning "allowing a look at or an understanding of something inner or hidden ; also : tending to expose more typically hidden parts of the body ).

So, (Are you still) confused? (Hmmm, "confused" would be a verb if "I confused you", but it would definitely be an adjective if "you are confused".

Enjoy the nuances of the language! Hope this helps.
