My husband may be transferred to El Paso. We are living in a tiny little town with no homeschool group, and we can't WAIT to get to a place that has one. Just looking around online makes me think there is a lot to do there for homeschool families, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows more about this area from personal experience?

Hi, I've been homeschooled for a long time, but now I'm almost 2 school years behind in my work because my mom stopped helping me. She said I could figure out what I should be doing by myself, because I'm old enough.

I want to go to public school next year, but right now I don't know what to do or how I'm ever going to get caught up! Help!

I'm a junior and deicided I am going on homeschool. Do colleges have a preference for real public school students? Or does it even matter? I am new to the whole homeschooling thing so I really don't know much either. I live in California and want to go to college here too.

I have recently started homeschooling my 7th grade daughter. While I am an elementary school teacher by training, this is a new adventure for both of us. Does anyone have sggestions on curriuclums etc. I want a classic approach - and one with a Christian slant is fine. I have found the "prepackaged" programs to be fairly expenisve. I would love all input. Thank you.

I'm an unschooler and my mom has never taught me, but people get this idea in their heads from nowhere after they hear the words, "don't go to school," that my mom is my teacher and I have a classroom at home and live in a bunker with a stack of Bibles and chastity belts in the corner.

Then they find every hole in my knowledge -actually everything they know that I don't, forgetting that I know more about many things than they do- and go around blaming my mom for that.

I wouldn't care if they were calling me incompetent or stupid, but bringing my mother in on it is just low.

I have a child myself and often wonder what the motivation for home schooling is. Why is having your child exposed to different ways of thinking such a bad thing? Couldn't you use some of the things you don't like as part of what your kids are learning as a teaching tool?

For example, if you don't believe in evolution, why not come at it from the angle of, some people might believe in this but it's not something we choose to believe?

Also, how do you have your child learn proper social skills when he or she only interacts with his or her brothers and sisters as peers?

I am not here to bash home schooling just looking for an understanding of the motivation behind doing so. I am looking forward to reading your answers.

I read recently in the newspaper about home schooled children. They study when they want, how much they want, and don't have to study all that much if they don't want. It goes on to say that there is no reporting to the public school on their progress and there is no testing done. It also said that if filing your child as being totally home schooled than its like a Private School where the Government have no control on how that child learns. Basically I think their saying there's no interference from the Government or the public school. I didn't know that. We know as parents that Public Schools can be a hard place for a child because they learn alot of other things we wish they wouldn't know (you know what I mean). How does a parent know if their home schooled child is learning everything they should be learning at that grade level? How does a parent teach that child without any guidance from a public school? Do you think the child benefits more being home schooled?
