Dry your tears, hun.
Well, mostly I would say that you need to check the laws for your state. some states allow homeschool students to participate in publicschool events, some do not.
But, another thing to look at would be the rules for the dance at the school.
Is anyone allowed to bring a date from outside the school? If so, you're in.
If it is closed and only students at that school can attend, then you may be out.
But even if you're out, maybe your parents will allow you to arrange something nice with your friends after the dance, like a nice restaraunt or something.
Last thing to consider is why did the principal say you "might" not be able to attend. Did you talk to him? your parents? I would pin him down on a yes or no before the end of the day.
good luck!

Generally, school policies states that school activities are open only to students at that school, such as school athletic teams. If you want to play on the football, basketball, baseball, or track teams, you have to be a student at the school. When it comes to school dances, they could possibly follow that same policy. HOWEVER, and this is the way out (or in your case, the way in), if the school does not impose a restriction on who the student brings as a date to the dance, then if someone who is currently a student at the school invites you to the dance, they cannot exclude you. If they do, then they are discriminating against you because you are homeschooled. For example....if the dance is being held by School A, and a student is allowed to bring at date that does not attend the school to the dance (i.e. student goes to school at School B), then they cannot prevent you from going to the dance.

Every school district has their own policies and rules. I'd very politely ask to see it in writing.
Sorry that you missed your dance...you should talk to the local homeschoolers about having an open dance. Many groups do this and it's a lot of fun.

There is no law that would stop you from attending a local school dance. It would be a school policy if they don't let you attend. I think the principal said might because he is leaning towards letting you attend, but might be needing to check on the policy. That would be how I would be.
Good Luck!!!

Sweet...I'm in 8th grade, homeschooled, too. Ok, technically 7th, but I skipped a grade.
I am participating in activities with the local public school, and there haven't been any problems. I'd check with that principal again. Good luck, and HAVE FUN!

you should ask, like if people can bring dates from other schools to the dance, then you're in because they would be discriminating against you, if they let no one in who doesn't go to that school, then you probably won't be able to get in, unless the principal just doesn't notice you there.

Um I don't think there are any LAWs regarding that at all, its all school rules. I don't know about there but for dances here ONLY people who attend the school can go plus 1 guest (this would be someone "date" usually but can be a friend)
If your friends go to the school and they are real friends convince one to have you as their guest/date.

properly it relies upon on what kind of topic the dance is going to be. yet whilst your in basic terms asking what you think of you're able to positioned on, i think of it is going to be a first rate costume. generally, purple, blue, and white looks solid.

I don' t think the principle can keep you from going to the dance. I do believe there are laws about this type of thing. Just go ahead and go with your friends and if the principle gives you any trouble, have him call your parents, or you call them.
