Loosely, it's where a student, 18 and under, has their education taking place at home (sort of).
This can be in the form of parents teaching or guiding the children.
It can be in the form of unschooling, where children decide what they will learn.
It can be in the form of programs which require the children to work independently, like the Robinson Curriculum.
It can be in the form of correspondence or online learning.
I said "sort of" for the education taking place at home because many homeschoolers get out quite a bit and so not all of a student's education takes place at home. They might take lessons or classes in their community, go on field trips, partake in learning clubs... It's not at all wise to think that homeschoolers simply stay home.

home schooling is when a person can learn in the comfort of his or own home, via computer, or having a teacher come to your house, it can be done from kindergarden to college, and i believe you can even get a g.e.d via homeschooling now a days. it can be for people who are not comfortable around some people in school or can learn better when not around negativity. or for people who dont have time on their hands

educating your children at home. when my son was in kinder his teacher said he was a excellent student. and when i opened his folder of work everything was I (for incomplete) i asked her what in the world is she talking about. she literally took the folder and looked at it as if it was the first time.she had no idea he was having problems! my son gets flustered with oral tests, but does great on paper. and that's something public school wont waste time helping on. and what public school calls A is sad really. my city's school district is the worst in south texas. and what they call 4th grade level is said to be 2nd grade level to the program i use on my kids. i have one child who gets to excel at her own pace. and i have a son who gets the extra time he needs to grasp a concept, which i think public school would not wait around for.my other son has a speech problem so last year i called my school district for help. they said he couldnt use their facilities because he doesnt go to school there, then they called back (after i gave a lecture on paying taxes) that he'd have to be on a list). another school district said they'd gladly take him for free! which is awesome because they ranked #1 in our area. i have no faith in a school district who wont help a child just because he's homeschooled! but the drive to the district is way to far. so i just do home tutoring for his speech. but i'm told because he his adult teeth havent come in i shouldnt worry.

Homeschooling is a student who takes their classes at home. Their parents could grade their homework, or they could send there homework into a teacher...it depends on the program.
