I'm a college student in my last semester of school (14 weeks to go!!!)

Any advice on consolidation and repayments?

In particular, about the monthly payments. Have you had any options to make the payments over the longer period and when you had additional money did you pay extra?

Were they honest about the monthly loan amout?

Have you found that there are any problems with paying extra on the principal or paying more than one month at a time?

Have you found any concerns about penalties for missing or late payments? I've heard that they really raise up the interest rate if you are even one day late.

Any suggestions on loan consolidadation companies. I'm getting 3 or 4 companies contacting me each week and it's difficult to know what to look for.

Thanks for any advice you may have!

What is the best book/website/source to find the different scholarships that are out there??? I would like to start my daughter in her search for scholarships NOW. She is only a college freshman, but I understand that this is the best time to start! Since sports is not her thing, her best chance is academics.

I have an associates degree in paralegal studies; however, I got my degree over 10 years ago. I would like to get a B.S. in paralegal. One didn't even need any type of license or certificate when I graduated because there were very few paralegals, does one have to be certified now.

I have applied for financial aid but was wondering if there are any other resources available to help me with my tuition cost other than student loans. I keep finding web sites who want me to purchase this information, but I am leary of doing so.

I am considering quitting my job to attend school full time. The program I am interested in is 40 hours per week, M-F for 2 years, and does not fit with any kind of work schedule at my place of employment.
I would probably have enough money to cover one year of living expenses but not enough for the second year or tuition. Can I get a student loan to pay for my tuition and my living expenses if I'm not working while attending school?

I have a step-daughter who lives in a plush off-campus apartment(picture fireplace and garden tub)her 1st year in college with her boyfriend(whole other issue)and has her car, insurance, rent, food, cable, cell phone, and utilities as well as books and remaining tuition paid for by us and her mother 50/50. She works very part-time at a mall clothing store to pay for gas and other non-essentials. She is furious when we put a $50/month cap on our portion of groceries and wont reimburse her for candy. Her mother threatens law suits and daughter thinks we're awful and hates us. My husband and I make less than $60K combined a year with her 15 yr old brother living with us. We drive 10+yr old vehicles(hers is much newer and her 3rd by the way) and we live a very modest life. We both attend school full-time and work full-time to pay or mortgage and bills and provide her with this lifestyle which we only seem to think excessive. How can we convince her she is wanting more than our means?

What do these people look for most? An opinion that would coincide with how THEY would think (some of these questions are ethical questions) or how you really feel? Also, do these people look at your organization of your essay or more on content? Meaning it's not important HOW it's written as much as what it SAYS? Also, do these places want a more logical paper or an emotional paper telling about your "struggles to get to where you are today"? Because to me, that seems whiney and "high schoolish", and a bit conceided. I don't know what to do, or how to start this process. I could really use some help/advice.

I need money for school without taking out a ton of $$ in loans. I'm registered with FastWeb, Scholarship.com, and College Answer. It just seems like I can't get scholarships because I either don't qualify for some reason, or the competition is to stiff. Any other ideas?

I am hoping great grades can help me- I dont want loans. My tuition is partly paid for by my employer but the rest is uncovered. I make too much for grants and my uncovered tuition adds up to about 8,000 dollars per year. I just started this semester, and was wondering, if I make a 3.8-4.0, will that help me? Also does age have anything do do with it? I am 25.
